For all fans of Celtic (and, of course, other) music, the 19-string Classic Cantabile Celtic Harp delivers feel-good tones for everyone.

Typical Construction

Characteristic for the Celtic harp is the gracefully curved shape of the column, similar to the motif found on the Irish coat of arms. The hook harp, crafted from ash wood, has a range of 2.5 octaves (f - c³).

Tuning

The 19 strings are tuned diatonically to E-flat major, with the blue and red strings indicating where the C and F notes sit. By flipping up the respective hooks the harp can be quickly retuned to another key, which makes it very flexible for playing with others. For first attempts and easier learning, however, C tuning is also possible. Two tuning wrenches are used to tune the instrument: the square key fits the tuning pegs, while the hex key is for the fine tuners on the opposite side.

Lever Mechanism

The harp's special mechanism makes it a versatile companion in different keys. Each string is fitted with a semitone lever which, when engaged, raises that string's pitch by a semitone. That way you're ready for any sharp key with just a few quick moves.

To avoid transport damage, the harp is shipped with the levers folded up. Before use, all levers are folded down so the strings can vibrate freely. In this state the harp is tuned to E-flat major; it's perfectly normal for the strings to need frequent retuning during the first few weeks. Once the strings have stretched sufficiently, the tuning will hold much longer.

Tuner With Metronome

This universal device is the perfect companion for virtually any instrument. Not only can almost any instrument be tuned using the contact microphone and the wide tuning range, but the built-in metronome also keeps everything in time. The calibratable tuner offers 5 tuning modes, a tone generator and a jack input with contact microphone. The metronome covers a large tempo range from 30 to 260 beats per minute, 9 time signatures and various rhythm subdivisions.

Harp Method

Kristine Warmhold explains all the important information for harp beginners in this method. From setup, tuning and holding the harp to various plucking techniques, the songs develop the most important skills step by step. You get detailed explanations for each exercise in the additional videos, which are available for download. All songs are performed in the videos, giving you a clear idea of how the finished piece should sound — later you can play "in duet" with Kristine. All videos are played on the smaller 12-string harp, so you can start on any larger harp as well.
