For all fans of Celtic (and of course other) music, the 19-string Celtic harp from Classic Cantabile delivers feel-good tones for everyone.

Typical Construction

Characteristic of the Celtic harp is the typically curved shape of the column, like the one found on the Irish coat of arms. The lever harp crafted from ash features a range of 2.5 octaves (F - C3).

Tuning

The 19 strings are tuned diatonically to E-flat major, with the blue and red strings indicating where the notes C and F are located. By flipping up the corresponding hooks you can quickly retune the harp to another key, allowing you to play very flexibly with others. For first attempts and easier understanding, C tuning is also possible. Two tuning wrenches are provided to tune the instrument: the square key is used on the tuning pegs, while the hex key serves the fine tuners on the opposite side.

Lever Mechanism

The special mechanism on this harp makes it a versatile companion in different keys. Each individual string is equipped with a semitone lever which, when engaged, raises the pitch of that string by a semitone. That way you are ready for any sharp key with just a few quick moves.

To avoid transport damage, the harp is shipped with the levers flipped up. For this reason they are first folded down so that all strings can vibrate freely. In this state the harp is then tuned to E-flat major, and it is perfectly normal for the strings to require frequent retuning in the first weeks. Once the strings have sufficiently stretched, the tuning will hold much longer.
