Kawai at Kirstein
Kawai was founded in 1927 by Koichi Kawai in Hamamatsu, Japan, and has a long tradition of building acoustic keyboard instruments. This experience also shapes the manufacturers digital instruments: Kawai has been building digital pianos since 1986, with the aim of transferring key characteristics of an acoustic piano, such as touch, dynamics and tonal character, to digital instruments as convincingly as possible. At Kirstein, you can therefore find Kawai across several product categories – from compact digital instruments to traditional acoustic pianos.
Kawai digital pianos: CA, CN, CX and other series
If you are looking for an instrument for the living room, lessons or regular practice, the Kawai digital pianos offer a range of different concepts. The CA series, short for Concert Artist, includes models with wooden-key actions. Depending on the model, Grand Feel Compact or Grand Feel III actions are used. The CA instruments available from Kirstein also feature sounds based on the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand. The Kawai CA series provides a useful choice for players who place particular emphasis on the keyboard action and piano playing experience.
The CN series is a versatile range of digital pianos with weighted hammer action. Models such as the CN201 and CN301 use Kawais Responsive Hammer III action and combine a traditional home-piano concept with digital features. The range is complemented by the more compactly positioned CX series. This allows you to narrow down your choice not simply by price, but primarily by keyboard action, sound system, features and preferred cabinet design.
Kawai ES and MP for portable playing and the stage
For flexible setups and transport, it is worth taking a look at the stage pianos. The ES series includes portable digital pianos, ranging from compact models for home and mobile use to more extensively equipped instruments. They are an interesting option if you do not need a fixed digital-piano cabinet or regularly want to move the instrument between locations.
The MP series is geared more towards professional stage use. Models such as the MP7SE and MP11SE combine weighted keyboards with extensive sound and performance functions. The MP11SE, for example, uses a Grand Feel action with wooden keys. This makes the MP range particularly suitable for pianists looking for a transportable stage instrument while placing high demands on playing feel.
Kawai Novus: hybrid pianos with acoustic action
Novus instruments occupy a special position in the range. In these hybrid pianos, Kawai combines a traditional acoustic action with digital sound generation and sensor technology. The Novus NV5S, for example, uses a complete upright piano action with damper mechanism and optical sensors. This design is aimed at players who want to combine the mechanical playing feel of an acoustic instrument with the functions of a digital piano.
Kawai pianos and grand pianos
Kawais expertise is not limited to digital instruments. In the field of acoustic pianos, Kirstein offers instruments from the K series as well as models with an Anytime silencer system. The Millennium III action uses ABS-Carbon components, combining traditional construction with modern materials. If you are looking for a purely acoustic instrument, you should consider not only size and tonal character but also touch, installation location and your individual requirements for lessons or playing at home.
Grand pianos are also part of the Kawai range at Kirstein. The GL series likewise uses the Millennium III action; the GL-10, for example, features extended keys and a solid spruce soundboard. Due to its space requirements, acoustics and playing characteristics, a grand piano presents different considerations from a digital piano or upright and should therefore be selected carefully.
Which Kawai piano is right for you?
When choosing an instrument, it helps to start by defining how and where you want to use it. A cabinet digital piano from the CN, CX or CA family is particularly suitable for regular playing at home. ES models offer greater flexibility for transport, while the MP series is designed with stage use in mind. Novus is aimed at pianists who want to combine an acoustic action with digital technology. If you prefer a traditional instrument without digital sound generation, Kawai also offers acoustic pianos and grand pianos. If you have questions about keyboard actions, features or choosing the right instrument, Kirsteins expert advice team will be happy to assist you.
