Grand Feel Compact Action with Touch Point and Wooden Keys with Ivory Touch Surface

The CA401 model is equipped with the new Grand Feel Compact action with wooden keys, which—thanks to Kawai's 90 years of piano-building experience—offers an exceptionally realistic playing feel. All 88 keys are made entirely from long wooden parts, with the white keys coated with Ivory Touch to optimize playing control.

Each of the 88 keys moves smoothly on a balance rail, as known from an acoustic grand piano. Thanks to the long keys (especially the length from the front edge of the key to the balance rail pin), playing in the rear part of the keys is eased. The Grand Feel Compact keyboard action features graded weighted hammers, counterweights in the bass range, and touch point simulation. Additionally, the triple sensor system ensures optimal repetition and playing control.

The CA401 digital piano now offers the excellent sound of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand as a Competition Grand. This unique instrument is used exclusively for international competitions, valued for its tonal clarity, and is regularly heard on stages of concert halls and music institutions.

All 88 keys of this extraordinary grand piano model were meticulously recorded and analyzed. The unique character of each individual note and the wide dynamic range of the sounds allow the pianist to express their emotional playing—from soft pianissimo to powerful fortissimo.

OLED Display with Easy Operation

The highly readable OLED display simplifies operation significantly. All functions can be accessed via the redesigned control panel and the OLED display. No operation via the keyboard is necessary.

Additional Features

The powerful lesson function in the CA401 supports aspiring pianists in learning piano through an integrated collection of typical piano lesson etudes by Czerny, Burgmüller, or Beyer, as well as the well-known Alfred Piano courses. Each exercise title can be played back with variable tempo and individual playback of the left or right hand before being recorded together with the player's own performance for self-assessment. A four-hand mode, which allows simultaneous playing by teacher and student in the same octave range, is also available.

An intuitive recording function is found in all models of the CA series. The recorder in the CA401 has a maximum recording capacity of about 10,000 notes. Up to 3 songs can be recorded.

SHS Headphone System

Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) is a special feature of the new CA401 that gives the acoustic piano sound more spatial depth over headphones and additionally improves the listening experience over longer periods.

Sound System

By using new audio components and a new power supply, the CA401's sound system is even clearer and more powerful than its predecessor. Distortion-free signal paths with maximum dynamics offer high resolution and pure sound.

Bluetooth Audio / Bluetooth MIDI

In addition to the USB-to-host connection, the CA401 is also equipped with Bluetooth MIDI technology, enabling wireless communication with smart devices (e.g., smartphone or tablet). This gives you the opportunity to comfortably use a wide range of music-related apps such as the Kawai PianoRemote app or the PiaBookPlayer app in conjunction with your CA401 digital piano.

Or simply use the Bluetooth Audio interface. Just connect your smartphone to the CA401 and enjoy all your music directly through the CA401's speaker system. This is especially recommended for play-along.

Adjustable Music Stand

The angle of the music stand can be adjusted—like on a grand piano—to suit the player’s position. If needed, the music stand of the CA series can also be laid completely flat. The new music stand pins effectively prevent sheet music from slipping.

Grand Feel Pedal System

The CA401 is equipped with the Grand Feel Pedal System. This system, developed by Kawai, matches the resistance of the three pedals (sustain, soft, and sostenuto) to the pedal playing feel of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand. Proper pedal positioning has also been carefully considered.
