For fans of Celtic (and, of course, other) music, the 29-string Celtic harp from Classic Cantabile delivers feel-good tones for everyone.

Typical Design

The Celtic harp is characterized by the typically curved shape of its pillar, like the one found on the Irish coat of arms. Made from ash, the hook harp offers a range of 4 octaves (c-c4).

Tuning

The 29 strings are tuned diatonically to E-flat major, with the blue and red strings marking the positions of the C and F notes. By flipping up the individual hooks, you can quickly retune the harp to another key, making it easy to play flexibly with other musicians. For first attempts and easier understanding, C tuning is also possible. Two tuning keys are provided for tuning the instrument: the square key fits the tuning pegs, while the hex key is for the fine tuners on the opposite side.

Lever Mechanism

This harp's special mechanism makes it a versatile companion in different keys. Each string has a semitone lever that, when engaged, raises that string's pitch by a semitone. That way, with just a few adjustments you're ready to play in any sharp key.

To avoid transport damage, the harp is shipped with the levers folded up. Therefore, they are first folded down so all the strings can vibrate freely. In this state the harp is then tuned to C major; it's perfectly normal that the strings will need retuning regularly during the first weeks. Once the strings have stretched sufficiently, the tuning will hold much longer.
