Since the 1970s, Yamaha's cult reference monitors with the white cone have set the standard across the audio industry for accurate, authentic reproduction. Other studio monitors may flatter the ear at first with boosted bass and treble, but that can also lead you way off when judging a mix. Yamaha's HS models deliver reference sound you can trust throughout the entire mixing process for honesty and precision.

Yamaha's loudspeaker engineers combined decades of expertise with deep know-how during development. They used state-of-the-art technology and refined the product until the monitors became some of the most reliable reference listens in the audio scene. The second generation of the HS series was not only improved further, it was also expanded with a new 6.5" model, giving you even more options for your studio.

Newly Developed Drivers

The HS series features newly developed drivers that deliver a remarkably balanced response across a wide frequency range. The behavior of the speaker magnets and the magnetic field they generate were perfected, playing a major role in flawless, natural-sounding transduction. All assemblies, including their raw materials and circuit designs, were carefully tested and optimized to achieve absolutely accurate signal reproduction across the entire audible spectrum.

High-Performance Amplifiers

The amps in the HS series are perfectly matched to the drivers of each model. Thanks to the bi-amplified design, the tweeter and woofer each have their own dedicated amplifier. The amps are of outstanding quality and contribute significantly to the monitors' high-resolution sound and linear frequency response.

Low-Resonance Enclosure Design

A special enclosure design prevents unwanted resonances in the HS series, allowing the precision of the reproduction to be pushed to the limits of what’s possible. The cabinets are made from durable MDF with optimal damping properties, ideal for studio monitors. With Yamaha's more than 100 years of piano-building experience, the HS engineers used a traditional three-way corner joint. This construction firmly anchors the cabinet panels at the corners, making the units not only very durable but also keeping unwanted resonances in check that could otherwise degrade the overall sound.

Innovative Methods to Minimize Noise

Bass-reflex ports can add punch, but they can also negatively affect the sound. The problem stems from turbulence at both ends of the port, creating air vibrations that cause unwanted noise. Through careful analysis, Yamaha engineers optimized the bass-reflex channel and minimized the tendency to turbulent flow, ultimately reducing noise by up to 6 dB. That allows HS series monitors to meet even the strictest and most demanding production requirements.

Controls and Connections

The fullrange models in the HS series offer two tone controls that let you adapt the speakers to the acoustic properties and shape of the room boundaries. ROOM CONTROL lets you reduce the exaggerated bass that inevitably occurs when speakers sit close to walls. With HIGH TRIM you can adjust the high-frequency response. On the input side, the fullrange speakers feature TRS and XLR jacks suitable for balanced and unbalanced connections from keyboards and mixers to audio interfaces.

On the HS8S subwoofer, the cutoff frequency of the switchable low-pass filter (HIGH CUT, trimming high frequencies) can be set between 80 and 120 Hz. The high-pass filter on the output (LOW CUT, trimming low frequencies) can also be set between 80 and 120 Hz. PHASE allows the phase at the subwoofer output to be inverted. The HS8S subwoofer provides XLR outputs (L, R and EXT SUB). Inputs are available in both TRS and XLR formats.

Secure Support for Studio Monitors with the Sturdy Pronomic SLS-10 Speaker Stand!

The Pronomic speaker stand adjusts in six steps from 80 cm to 130 cm in height. A safety pin prevents the upper section from slipping unintentionally. To compensate for uneven floors, you can fine-tune the stand's rubber feet. Alternatively, the three spike feet included in the scope of delivery can be used. These spikes provide even better stability on carpets and, due to their smaller contact area, offer higher decoupling of the speakers from floor vibrations.

Versatile and Thoughtfully Designed Down to the Last Detail

The shelf for the speaker cabinets is rubberized with two foam strips. This protects the speaker from scratches and improves isolation from the stand. The monitor plate measures 23 cm x 23 cm. With the secure safety pin, height-adjustable rubber feet and optional spike feet, plus the rubberized shelf surface, the stand leaves nothing to be desired. Integrated cable clamps also improve cable management. No tools are needed to assemble the stand other than the supplied hex key.
