Yamaha MG Series: Live and Studio-Ready!
For more than a century Yamaha has relied on a legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and innovation, reflected across all our products — from an unmatched catalog of world-class musical instruments to professional touring-quality audio gear. The MG Series embodies this pursuit of excellent design and includes some of the same technologies developed for use in professional high-end consoles, including studio-grade preamps, powerful digital processing and a rugged, reliable construction.
With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface, the MG Series offers a wide range of compact mixers with models from six to twenty channels, suitable for a variety of users and applications. The solid build and flexible design of these mixers let you shape your sound with confidence. They consistently deliver top performance and a level of sonic quality and reliability that’s unmatched in their class.
Master of Its Class
Yamaha has always aimed to provide customers with the most uncolored, pure sound possible, leaving the mix engineer every opportunity to shape the mix. Although colorations can sometimes sound appealing, they steer the mix in a set direction that can severely limit a producer's creative freedom. The MG Series was developed strictly according to this Yamaha conviction. It follows the philosophy that sound above all should be pure and transparent like a mountain stream. As a result, these consoles deliver clarity never before heard in this class.

The MG Series includes numerous models with 6 to 20 channels suited for many different tasks. The intuitive interface, robust construction, high sound quality and flexible design of these reliable consoles are unrivaled in the compact class and ensure nothing stands in the way of creating great mixes.

D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Microphone Preamps)
Preamps form the starting point for a good sound. If their quality isn't sufficient, no great mix can be achieved, no matter how hard the engineer works. In other words: this is where the path for the mix is set, or where an early decision is made about how good it will sound. The MG Series consoles feature Yamaha’s studio-grade, discretely constructed Class-A preamps. They use an inverted Darlington circuit that, thanks to a so-called dual-transistor cascade, delivers more power at lower impedance. D-PRE amps provide fat, naturally sounding bass and silky highs with very low tendency to distort.
Thanks to their wide, very balanced frequency range, the preamps handle all conceivable signal sources without overemphasizing any frequency bands. This clean sonic foundation can save you a lot of time and effort, because extensive EQ adjustments or further processing to correct the mix become unnecessary.
Operational Amplifiers for Highest-Quality Sound
The preamp determines sound quality, while the op amp ICs are among the most important components of the preamp. The MG Series uses new, very high-quality, custom-made MG01 operational amplifiers that we developed in close cooperation with the semiconductor manufacturer. While many op amps optimize circuit design and efficiency—both positive traits—Yamaha prioritizes sound quality, so an off-the-shelf chip was not an option.
The MG01 op amps feature redesigned circuits where internal components and wiring are perfectly matched. And of course very good materials in their purest form—such as discs of ultra-pure silicon and copper wires—are used, so every single component of the chip contributes to outstanding resolution.

Switchable Phantom Power and PAD Switches
Thanks to switchable phantom power, MG consoles allow connecting condenser microphones with all their advantages over dynamic microphones, including extended frequency response, much greater dynamics and improved sound quality. Input channels with PAD switches accept mic and line level sources. The PAD button attenuates high-level inputs—for example, miked instruments during a concert that might otherwise cause clipping and seriously damage the mix.
Yamaha's Mixer. Your Sound.
Do you have a favorite song where the guitar needs no EQ or the vocals require no processing? Probably not. Yamaha mixers are known for their linear reproduction and sonic purity, but even with perfectly recorded instruments or vocals you usually need a bit more to achieve a truly professional-sounding mix. Many tools originally from Yamaha's hi-end consoles are now found in the MG Series. The consoles have everything you need to produce a distinct, pro-quality sound.

One-Button Compressors
Compression plays a central role in almost every studio production or live sound application. By cleverly limiting dynamics with a compressor, you can give basslines more punch, tighten snares, make vocals more present or thicken live guitar walls. But it can take countless hours to master the complexity of even simple hardware compressors. Yamaha’s "One-Button" compressors are an innovative proprietary design that lets you set the compressor optimally with a single knob.

EQ and High-Pass Filter
There's nothing better than a reliable equalizer when you need to make nuanced tonal adjustments. The MG Series also benefits from Yamaha’s unrivaled experience building audio gear. All mono channels feature excellent 3-band EQs for precise control over the sound. Additional high-pass filters let you remove unwanted handling noise and other low-frequency disturbances, making the mix noticeably clearer and cleaner.
AUX / Effect Sends / Groups
MG Series mixers provide AUX sends to expand a live or studio setup. You can use these to add external effects, route outputs to external recording devices or feed a monitoring system. The master sum also has its own send controls. The MG06 / 06X and MG10 / 10XU models only have a single stereo mix bus. Other models, however, additionally include one or two stereo group buses and corresponding outputs that can be used for convenient channel grouping. Here you'll also find switches next to each channel fader for clear group assignment.

Numerous Input and Output Connections
All models feature high-quality balanced Neutrik XLR connectors on the mono channels. Stereo channels are also equipped with XLR jacks. The mono inputs are implemented as combo jacks and accept both MIC and LINE levels. Two of the stereo inputs are equipped with an XLR connector and two jack connectors. The XLR accepts mic-level signals, while the two jacks are intended for line-level signals. Either mono or stereo line signals can be supplied (except on the 10-channel model). The operation of the other two stereo channels varies by model: on the 20-channel model the XLR accepts mic level, while two phono connectors are designed for mono or stereo line signals.
On the 16- and 12-channel models two jack connectors accept stereo line signals. Additionally each stereo channel has 2TR phono jacks that serve as independent inputs for external signal sources such as CD players. The 10-channel model has an additional stereo channel with a pair of jack sockets for line signals. On the XU models any source entering via the USB connection can be assigned to one of the stereo channels. In addition to the main stereo outputs (XLR L/R, jack L/R), the MG consoles include numerous output connectors for groups (jack format), AUX/FX (jack format), monitor (jack L/R) and headphones (stereo jack). The mix outputs can be used for various tasks such as monitoring or mastering.
LED Level Indicator
The LED level indicators of the MG Series allow output levels to be read quickly and precisely.
Internal SPX Digital Effects
In all applications, with or without music, effects add polish and professionalism to the mix. The MG-X / -XU models are equipped with Yamaha's globally respected SPX multi-effect processor, providing 24 editable, first-class digital effects that are perfect for enhancing a mix. For a presentation you can add the right amount of depth, or give a live concert fresh energy. In particular the excellent reverb and solid delay can realistically and naturally improve the spatial quality of the mix. The FC5 footswitch is optionally available to switch the effects on and off (MG10XU / 12XU / 16XU / 20XU).

Built to Last

At concerts, recording sessions and even fixed installations your console can be exposed to a wide variety of external influences and risks. It might be very humid, mains power may be unstable, and many stresses on the road can lead to costly, time-consuming repairs and shorten the device's lifespan. With the newly developed MG Series we placed particular emphasis on durability so these consoles can deliver top performance for many years.

Metal Chassis
The MG Series is built to last and therefore features a solid, powder-coated metal chassis of outstanding manufacturing quality. The design optimally supports internal convection cooling, while the power supply is cleanly separated from the analog circuits inside the unit, which not only prevents unwanted noise but also positively affects component longevity. Moreover, forces such as pressure or tension on the console controls are not transmitted directly to the PCB or electronic components as in many other consoles, but are absorbed by the sturdy chassis, which further benefits the MG Series' reliability and longevity.
Internal Universal Power Supply
Thanks to the highly efficient internal universal power supply you can use the MG Series anywhere on the globe without worry—even where mains voltage fluctuates. The internal supply also simplifies rack mounting for installations because no bulky adapter or extra peripherals are needed. (* MG12 / 16 / 20 / 12XU / 16XU / 20XU)

Rack Mount Kit Included
The 16- and 20-channel MG models come with rack ears, so in addition to simple table setup, trouble-free rack mounting is possible. This makes the consoles well suited for mobile and permanent installations. The extremely robust yet compact design allows smooth, stable placement of the console, keeping setup time to a minimum. *For the MG12 and MG12XU models the optional rack-mount kit "RK-MG12" is available.
XLR Connector
The main stereo mix outputs are in XLR format. These professional connectors cannot be accidentally pulled out thanks to their locking mechanism and guarantee stable signal transmission even under the most demanding conditions.
Create, Record and Listen Instantly

The MG Series features the same recording-optimized connectivity concept used in Yamaha's professional mixers. Benefit from this state-of-the-art technology that makes it easier than ever to record, monitor and mix your creations.
USB Audio Interface with 2 In and 2 Out at 24-Bit/192 kHz Resolution
MG mixers include digital connections so digital material can be played back directly via the console. Via USB you can connect not only a PC but also Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad (2 and later) using Apple's "Lightning to USB Camera" adapter. The USB protocol uses asynchronous data transfer. Audio data receives highly accurate clocking from the MG console, allowing recording and playback at excellent quality.
