Yamaha MG Series: Live- and Studio-Ready!
For more than a century Yamaha has built on a legacy of outstanding craftsmanship and innovation that shows in all our products, from an unrivaled catalog of world-class musical instruments to professional, touring-quality audio gear. The MG Series embodies that pursuit of excellent design and includes some of the same technologies developed for use in professional high-end consoles, including studio-quality preamps, powerful digital processing, and robust, reliable construction.
With an intuitive, easy-to-use interface, the MG Series offers a wide range of compact mixing consoles in models from six to twenty channels, suited to a variety of users and applications. The solid build and flexible design let you shape your sound with confidence. They consistently deliver top performance and a level of sonic quality and reliability that’s unmatched in their class.
Master of Its Class
Yamaha has always aimed to give customers the purest, least colored sound possible when developing audio equipment—so the mix engineer still has every door open. While coloration can sometimes sound attractive, it steers a mix in a fixed direction and can severely limit a producer’s creative freedom. The MG Series was developed firmly around that Yamaha conviction. It follows the philosophy that sound should above all be pure and transparent, like a mountain stream. That’s why these consoles deliver clarity the likes of which hasn’t been seen in this class until now.

The MG Series includes many models from 6 to 20 channels, suited to a wide range of tasks. The intuitive interface, rugged construction, high sonic quality, and flexible design of these reliable consoles are unrivaled in the compact class and make sure nothing stands in the way of great mixes.

D-PRE (Discrete Class-A Microphone Preamps)
Preamps are the starting point for great sound. If their quality isn’t up to par, you won’t get a truly good mix no matter how hard the engineer works. In other words, the course of the mix is set here—an early decision is made about how good it can ultimately sound. The MG consoles feature Yamaha’s studio-capable, discretely constructed Class-A preamps. They use an inverted Darlington circuit that, thanks to a so-called dual-transistor cascade, delivers more drive at lower impedance. D-PRE amps produce thick, naturally sounding bass and silky highs with very low distortion.
Thanks to their wide, very balanced frequency response, the preamps handle all conceivable signal sources without overemphasizing any frequency ranges. That clean sonic foundation saves you time and effort because you can avoid heavy EQ tweaks or other corrective processing to fix the mix.
Operational Amplifiers for Top-Quality Sound
The preamp determines sonic quality, while the op-amp ICs are among the most important components of the preamp. The MG Series features new, very high-quality, custom-built MG01 operational amplifiers that we developed in close collaboration with the semiconductor manufacturer. While many other op-amps are optimized for circuit design and efficiency—which are positive traits—Yamaha prioritized sound quality, so an off-the-shelf chip was not an option.
The MG01 op-amps feature redesigned circuits in which internal components and wiring are perfectly matched. And naturally, very pure materials—such as high-purity silicon wafers and copper wiring—are used so that every single component of the chip contributes to outstanding resolution.

Switchable Phantom Power and PAD Switches
With switchable phantom power the MG consoles accept condenser microphones and all their advantages over dynamics, including extended frequency response, higher dynamics, and improved sonic quality. The input channels with PAD switches accept mic- and line-level sources. The PAD button attenuates high-level inputs—for example, miked instruments onstage that might otherwise clip and seriously damage the mix.
Yamaha's Mixer. Your Sound.
Do you have a favorite song where the guitar works without EQ or the vocals need no processing? Probably not. Yamaha mixers are known for linear reproduction and sonic purity, but even perfectly recorded instruments or vocals usually need a little extra to achieve a truly professional mix. Many tools that originate in Yamaha’s high-end consoles are now available in the MG Series. These consoles simply have everything you need to produce a distinct pro-quality sound.

One-Button Compressors
Compression plays a major role in nearly every studio production or live sound application. By cleverly controlling the dynamics with a compressor, you can give basslines more punch, tighten snares, bring vocals forward, or fatten live guitar walls. But it can take countless hours to master the complexity of even simple hardware compressors. Yamaha’s One-Button compressors are an innovative in-house design that lets you dial in ideal compression with a single knob.

EQ and High-Pass Filter
There’s nothing better than a reliable equalizer when you need nuanced tone shaping. The MG Series benefits from Yamaha’s unrivaled experience building audio gear. All mono channels feature excellent 3-band EQs for precise control over the sound. Additional high-pass filters let you remove unwanted stage rumble and other low-frequency noise, making the mix noticeably clearer and cleaner.
AUX / Effect Sends / Groups
The MG mixers provide AUX sends to expand PA or studio setups. Via these you can add external effects, route outputs to recording devices, or feed a monitoring system. The main stereo sum has its own send controls as well. The MG06 / 06X and MG10 / 10XU models feature only a single stereo mix bus. Other models include one or two stereo group buses and corresponding outputs for convenient channel grouping. Next to each channel fader you’ll find switches for clear group assignment.

Numerous Input and Output Connections
All models feature high-quality, balanced Neutrik XLR jacks on the mono channels. The stereo channels also include XLR connectors. The mono inputs are combo jacks and accept both MIC and LINE level. Two of the stereo inputs have an XLR connector plus two jack connectors. The XLR accepts MIC level signals while the two jacks are designed for LINE level. You can feed either mono or stereo line signals (except on the 10-channel model). The function of the other two stereo channels varies by model: on the 20-channel model the XLR accepts MIC level while two phono-style connectors accept mono or stereo LINE signals.
On the 16- and 12-channel models two jack connectors accept stereo LINE signals. Each stereo channel also includes 2TR phono jacks that serve as independent inputs for external sources like CD players. The 10-channel model has an extra stereo channel with a pair of jack sockets for LINE signals. On XU models any USB input source can be assigned to one of the stereo channels. In addition to the main stereo outputs (XLR L/R, jack L/R), the MG consoles offer a variety of output connectors for groups (jack), AUX/FX (jack), monitor (jack L/R) and headphones (stereo jack). The mix outputs can be used for monitoring, mastering, and other tasks.
LED Level Meters
The LED level meters on the MG Series let you read output levels quickly and accurately.
Internal SPX Digital Effects
Effects can add polish and professionalism to any mix, musical or otherwise. The MG-X/-XU models include Yamaha’s world-renowned SPX multi-effect processor, offering 24 editable, first-class digital effects that are perfect for enhancing a mix. You can add the right amount of depth to a lecture or breathe fresh life into a live concert. The excellent reverb and fine delay in particular can improve the realism and natural space of your mix. The optional FC5 footswitch lets you toggle effects on and off (MG10XU / 12XU / 16XU / 20XU).

Built to Last

At concerts, recording sessions, and even fixed installations your console can face a range of external influences and hazards. It might get very humid, the mains supply might be unstable, and life on the road exposes gear to wear that can lead to costly, time-consuming repairs and shorten the unit’s lifespan. The newly developed MG Series places special emphasis on durability so the consoles can deliver peak performance for many years.

Metal Chassis
The MG Series is built to last and features a solid powder-coated metal chassis of exceptional build quality. The design optimizes internal convection cooling, and the power supply is cleanly isolated from the analog circuits inside, which prevents unwanted noise and extends component life. Additionally, forces such as pressure or pull on the control elements are absorbed by the sturdy chassis instead of the PCB or electronics, which further enhances the MG Series’ reliability and longevity.
Internal Universal Power Supply
Thanks to the highly efficient internal universal power supply you can use the MG Series anywhere in the world without worry—even where mains voltage fluctuates. The internal supply also simplifies rack mounting for fixed installations because no bulky external adapter is required. (* MG12 / 16 / 20 / 12XU / 16XU / 20XU)

Rack Mount Kit Included
The 16- and 20-channel MG models ship with rack ears so you can easily place them on a table or mount them in a rack. That makes these consoles ideal for mobile work and fixed installations. The extremely robust yet compact construction ensures stable placement and minimizes setup time. *The optional rack-mount kit "RK-MG12" is available for the MG12 and MG12XU models.
XLR Connector
The main stereo mix outputs use XLR-format connectors. These professional plugs lock in place so they can’t be pulled out accidentally and ensure stable signal transmission even under demanding conditions.
Create, Record, and Listen Instantly

The MG Series shares the same recording-optimized I/O concept used in Yamaha’s professional consoles. Benefit from this state-of-the-art technology that makes it easier than ever to record, monitor, and mix your work.
USB Audio Interface with 2 Inputs and 2 Outputs at 24-Bit/192 kHz Resolution
The MG consoles feature digital connectivity so you can play back digital material directly through the board. USB supports not only PCs but also Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad (2 and later) using Apple’s "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter." The USB protocol uses asynchronous data transfer. Audio data receives precise clocking from the MG console so recordings and playback are handled in excellent quality.
