Powerful Surface Sound Reinforcement With 40 Watts!

The Dayton Audio DAEX30HESF-4 High Efficiency Exciter transforms suitable surfaces into powerful speaker diaphragms. The passive sound exciter speaker combines a 40 Watt RMS power rating with a 4 ohm impedance, a 30 mm voice coil and a specially developed Steered-Flux neodymium drive. Thanks to its high drive force, the compact structure-borne transducer is particularly well suited to rigid materials, invisible speaker installations, DML surface speakers, displays, furniture, advertising signs and custom DIY audio projects.

Steered-Flux Drive for High Energy Transfer

The specially engineered neodymium motor system generates strong mechanical forces and transfers the audio signal directly to the mounted surface. The surface then functions as a conventional speaker diaphragm. This lets you realize exceptionally slim, visually discreet or completely hidden speaker solutions without having to incorporate a traditional speaker chassis visibly into the project.

The 30 mm voice coil is rated for 40 Watt RMS. With an impedance of 4 ohms, the DAEX30HESF-4 can efficiently use the power of suitable amplifiers. Its low voice coil inductance of only 0.31 mH supports extended responsiveness and reduces inductive impedance at higher frequencies. The resonant frequency is 300 Hz, although the actual frequency response depends heavily on the material, size, thickness and mounting of the surface used.

Secure Adhesive and Screw Mounting

For strong mechanical coupling, the surface transducer is equipped with a pre-applied 3M VHB adhesive ring. The housing also features four integrated threaded mounting points. The combination of adhesive bonding and screw fastening provides particularly stable attachment and supports efficient transfer of vibration energy.

The additional mounting points make the vibration speaker suitable for installations where an adhesive-only mount is not sufficient. With appropriate mechanical reinforcement, overhead mounting or applications on moving parts are also possible. Two solder tabs provide a durable electrical connection to the speaker wiring.

Tailored Sound From the Chosen Surface

With an exciter, frequency response, sensitivity and achievable sound pressure are created only in interaction with the mounting surface. Thinner and smaller materials generally reach higher levels and often emphasize the midrange and treble. Larger or thicker surfaces can produce a fuller sound but, due to their greater mass, may require multiple exciters or more amplifier power.

For optimal results, different mounting positions should be tested early in the project development. An off-center position can reduce unwanted symmetrical resonances. Material transitions, reinforcements, mounting points and free edges also significantly affect the radiation of a flat panel speaker. The DAEX30HESF-4 therefore opens up numerous possibilities for targeted acoustic tuning.

The High Efficiency Exciter is suitable for distributed mode loudspeakers (DML) as well as for custom flat panel speakers. Typical applications include invisible home cinema and multiroom systems, electronic toys, advertising signs, sales displays, information kiosks, multimedia exhibitions, commercial sound systems and automotive audio.

Thanks to its shielded design and compact construction, the structure-borne speaker can be integrated into technically demanding constructions. With a suitable amplifier rated for 4 ohms, you get a space-saving audio solution in which furniture parts, composite panels, displays or other suitable rigid materials themselves become the sound source.
