Powerful Sound from Rigid Surfaces!

The Dayton Audio DAEX32EP-4 Thruster Exciter turns suitable surfaces into efficient speaker diaphragms. The passive sound exciter combines 40 Watt RMS power handling with a 4 Ohm impedance, a robust 32 mm voice coil and a powerful neodymium drive. That makes this surface transducer ideal for custom surface speakers, DML systems, flat-panel speakers, furniture, glass panes, displays and demanding DIY audio projects.

Robust Drive Technology for High Power Handling

The proprietary, two-layer voice coil is attached to a sturdy steel spider. This high-durability construction generates a strong restoring force and supports reliable vibration transfer at higher power levels. With 40 Watt RMS power handling the DAEX32EP-4 can excite large, thick and rigid materials that present higher mechanical resistance to smaller audio exciters.

The rare-earth neodymium motor generates a high magnetic flux around the voice coil. This makes the surface transducer efficient and allows pairing with compact Class-D amplifiers rated for 4 Ohm. That enables space-saving audio solutions without a conventional speaker chassis or a visible diaphragm.

Quick Installation with 3M VHB Adhesive

For the most direct transmission of acoustic energy the Dayton Audio exciter already ships with a powerful 3M VHB adhesive applied. After removing the protective film the adhesive surface is pressed directly onto the intended mounting surface. Additional screws or drilling are not required for adhesive installation.

Two male flat spade terminals enable a quick electrical connection to the speaker cable. The compact design simplifies hidden integration into furniture, signage, exhibition surfaces, enclosures, vehicles or multimedia installations.

Flexible Sound Design with DML Technology

On the DAEX32EP-4 the mounted surface itself acts as the radiating diaphragm. That produces especially thin distributed mode loudspeakers (DMLs) as well as invisible or discreetly integrated speaker solutions. The exciter can, for example, set glass panes, wood panels, composite materials or other suitable rigid surfaces into vibration.

Frequency response, sensitivity and achievable SPL depend largely on the material, size, thickness, attachment and mounting position of the surface used. Thinner and smaller materials tend to deliver higher SPL with stronger mid and high frequencies. Larger and thicker surfaces can produce a fuller sound, but often operate at lower levels and may require multiple exciters.

The surface loudspeaker is suitable for invisible home cinema and multiroom systems, advertising signs, point-of-purchase displays, kiosks, multimedia exhibits, distributed sound systems and automotive audio. In loudspeaker DIY it also opens creative possibilities when conventional speaker enclosures are too large or visually unwanted.

When choosing an amplifier, ensure 4-ohm stability and an output power appropriate to the RMS rating. Final sound tuning should always be done with the actual surface and mounting position used.
