Powerful Surface Sound With 40 Watts!

The Dayton Audio DAEX30HESF-4 High Efficiency Exciter turns suitable surfaces into powerful speaker diaphragms. This passive sound exciter combines a 40 Watt RMS rating with a 4 Ohm impedance, a 30 mm voice coil and a specially developed Steered-Flux neodymium drive. Thanks to its high drive force, the compact surface transducer is particularly well suited to rigid materials, invisible speaker installations, DML flat-panel speakers, displays, furniture, signage and bespoke DIY audio projects.

Steered-Flux Drive for High Energy Transfer

The specially engineered neodymium motor system generates strong mechanical forces and transfers the audio signal directly into the mounted surface. The surface then acts as a conventional speaker diaphragm. This lets you build very slim, visually discreet or completely hidden speaker solutions without having to integrate a traditional speaker chassis visibly into the project.

The 30 mm voice coil is rated for 40 Watt RMS. With a 4 Ohm impedance the DAEX30HESF-4 can efficiently use the power from suitable amplifiers. Its low voice-coil inductance of only 0.31 mH supports improved transient response and reduces inductive impedance at higher frequencies. The resonance frequency is 300 Hz, while the actual frequency response is determined largely by the material, size, thickness and mounting of the chosen surface.

Secure Adhesive and Screw Mounting

For strong mechanical coupling the surface transducer comes with a pre-applied 3M VHB adhesive ring. The housing also features four integrated threaded mounts. The combination of adhesive and screw mounting provides an especially stable attachment and supports efficient transfer of vibrational energy.

Thanks to the additional mounting points the exciter is also suitable for installations where adhesive alone would not be sufficient. With appropriate mechanical securing, overhead installations or applications on moving parts are possible as well. Two solder tabs provide a durable electrical connection to the speaker wiring.

Custom Sound From the Chosen Surface

With an exciter the frequency response, sensitivity and achievable sound pressure are created in combination with the mounting surface. Thinner and smaller materials typically reach higher levels and often emphasize the mid and high frequencies. Larger or thicker surfaces can produce a fuller sound but, because of their greater mass, may require multiple exciters or higher amplifier power.

For the best result try different mounting positions early in the project. Off-center placement can reduce unwanted symmetric resonances. Material joints, bracing, mounting points and free edges also strongly influence the radiation of the flat-panel speaker. The DAEX30HESF-4 therefore offers many options for targeted acoustic tuning.

For DML, Displays and Invisible Audio Solutions

This High Efficiency Exciter is suitable for Distributed Mode Loudspeakers (DML) and custom flat-panel speakers. Typical applications include invisible home theater and multiroom systems, electronic devices, signage, point-of-sale displays, information kiosks, multimedia exhibitions, commercial sound systems and automotive audio.

Thanks to its shielded design and compact build, the transducer can be integrated into technically demanding constructions. With a suitable amplifier rated for 4 Ohm you get a space-saving audio solution where furniture parts, composite panels, displays or other rigid materials become the sound source.
