KORG's volca series steps into the footsteps of analog synthesizers like the MS-20, monotron and monotribe. volca is a new series for electronic music production that now includes four models: volca keys, volca bass, volca drums and, more recently, the volca sample. These powerful yet ridiculously easy-to-use synthesizers deliver an arsenal of fat sounds: volca drums, volca bass and volca keys are, despite their small size, three fully analog synthesizers!

Each volca also features a sequencer and recorder so you can intuitively and quickly create entire performances. Multiple volcas can be linked effortlessly thanks to classic Sync In/Out jacks, and you can also connect your DAW or MIDI keyboard via MIDI. True Analog Sounds in the Tradition of Classic Rhythm Machines

volca drums offers the six most important sounds of the analog drum era: Kick, Snare, Hi Tom, Lo Tom, Closed Hi Hat and Open Hi Hat. Based on the standard sounds essential to dance music and part of the repertoire of many synthesizers and sample CDs, volca drums develops powerful new sounds with unique analog punch.

Maximum Impact with a Minimal Number of Parameters - a Major Advantage of Analog Technology

With the carefully selected minimal set of parameters, the path to the desired drum sound is direct and short. For example, the three Click, Pitch and Decay knobs can create an incredible variety of kick drums, from rough-sounding lows that dominate the basses to compact tones that deliver precise timing. Regardless of settings, all sounds have great presence and density and the typical punch of analog sound generators.

PCM Sound Engine to Complement the Analog Sound Spectrum

Sounds like clap, claves, agogo and crash are less suitable for analog synths and are produced with the revived rough lo-fi sound of an 80s-style PCM sound engine. These sounds fit excellently with analog drums and can be dramatically pitched up or down by changing the PCM speed.

Loop Sequencer Based on Electribe

The Electribe Step Sequencer

This step sequencer lets you edit parts playfully and add or remove them improvisationally. You can enter notes intuitively via the 16 step keys and simultaneously monitor the note timing within the bar visually.
With the touch-panel keyboard you can record phrases in real time and store them in eight sequence patterns.

Stutter Function to Modify the Sequence with Trigger Repeats

The stutter function can create drum rolls or delay-like effects and dramatically expand live performance possibilities. You can completely change the feel of a pattern or insert just a fill between alternating patterns. Movements of the stutter knob can be recorded into the sequence.

Active Step Function Generates New Basslines by Removing/Inserting Steps

The Active Step function can skip a step during sequence playback, while the Step Jump function plays only the pressed step. This allows shortened loops, irregular rhythms and other effects to be combined into dynamic performances that sound like spontaneously played sequences.

Convenient Features for Greater Usability

SYNC and MIDI IN Jacks to Synchronize Multiple Devices Including Your DAW

The Sync jack synchronizes playback of multiple volcas and monotribes. With the "SyncKontrol" iPhone app you can even control tap tempo and swing functions and wirelessly control sync playback of iOS music apps via WIST. Via MIDI IN you can synchronize volca drums with other devices or play it from a MIDI keyboard. You can also send note messages from a DAW and use volca drums as an analog sound module.
