Three Fully Analog Synthesizers

KORG introduces the volca series, a line of devices that follows in the footsteps of analog synthesizers like the MS-20, monotron and monotribe. volca is a new series for electronic music production with now four models: volca keys, volca bass, volca rhythm as well as the most recent volca sample. These powerful yet easy-to-play synthesizers deliver a whole arsenal of fat sounds: volca rhythm, volca bass and volca keys are, despite their small size, three fully analog synthesizers!

Each volca also comes equipped with a sequencer and recorder to intuitively and quickly create entire performances. Multiple volcas can be linked effortlessly thanks to the classic Sync In/Out jacks, and via MIDI you can connect your DAW or a MIDI keyboard. Optional battery operation and the built-in speaker provide unlimited mobility.

Analog Basses with Noticeable Presence

Three Oscillators Produce Versatile Bass Sounds

The three oscillators generate the dense, modulated tones of classic analog synths and impress with great flexibility: from single unison to three-voice chords, an incredible variety of bass sounds is available. From sequences that use each oscillator separately you can craft complex patterns with three interwoven individual phrases. In a 2+1 oscillator combination, you can place one set of oscillators in the bass range and the other in the higher range to produce simultaneous bass and melody lines. For thick unison sounds, three oscillators run together can be easily detuned against each other or set to pitch values 0, +3 and +7 for full chords.

The analog filter has been further refined specifically for the volca bass. The cutoff knob makes the sound brighter and wider when opening the filter, while closing it makes the tone rounder and fatter. The Peak control used to boost resonance initially creates a clean peak effect and gradually develops into a powerful distortion. This resonance distortion, indispensable for Acid music, has been specially tuned for bass sounds.

Simple Structure with Only One VCF, VCA, LFO & EG

In addition to the three VCOs, the carefully selected parameter set of VCF, VCA, LFO and EG allows intuitive sound design. This common synthesizer architecture makes the volca bass the ideal instrument for anyone who wants to explore the fundamentals of synthetic sound generation and create their own patches.

Loop Sequencer of the Electribe Series

The Electribe Step Sequencer

With this step sequencer you can playfully edit parts and add or remove them while improvising. You can enter notes intuitively via the 16 step keys and simultaneously monitor note timing within the bar visually. Using the touch-panel keyboard you can record separate phrases per oscillator in real time, store them into eight sequence patterns and recall them at any time.

Slide Function Essential for EDM

The Acid bass sound with its "sticky" pitch and filter behaviors is a must for any analog synth. With the volca bass slide function you effortlessly create the flowing step transitions typical of Acid sounds. The slide effect can be set per step.

Active Step Function Creates New Basslines by Removing/Inserting Steps

With the Active Step function you can skip a step during sequence playback to produce shortened loops, irregular rhythms and other effects. The resulting dynamic performances sound like spontaneously played sequences.

Practical Features for Comfortable Operation

Self-Tuning Function Prevents Pitch Fluctuations

Longstanding issues with analog synths’ unstable pitch due to temperature changes and other factors have been solved in the volca bass with a self-tuning function. Because the oscillators are continuously adjusted, correct tuning is ensured immediately on power-up and throughout the entire performance.

SYNC and MIDI IN Jack to Synchronize Multiple Devices Including DAW

Via the Sync jack the playback of multiple volcas and monotribes is synchronized. With the "SyncKontrol" iPhone app you can even control tap tempo and swing functions as well as sync playback of iOS music apps wirelessly via WIST. Via MIDI IN the volca bass can be synchronized to other devices or played from a MIDI keyboard. You can also send note messages from a DAW and use the volca bass as an analog sound module.
