Anytime!
The impact of the hammers on the strings sets them and the soundboard into vibration. This releases the warm, natural, and unmistakable sound of an acoustic piano.
On an excellent piano, pianists play with spontaneity and passion. However, this enthusiastic expression is not always welcome. There are always situations and environments where piano playing is perceived as disturbing. For example, when children practice scales while other family members want to watch TV quietly. Even the playing of a calm Chopin prelude can – after a certain duration – bother some neighbors.
The AnyTimeX4 models feature a mute function for the acoustic part of the piano and high-quality digital piano technology. This allows pianists to enjoy the feel of a traditional piano anytime and, by using headphones, not disturb anyone. The Kawai SH-9 headphones, specially tuned to the instrument’s integrated sound generation, are included with the AnyTimeX4 models.
Millennium III Keyboard
KAWAI revolutionized piano building in 1971 by using ABS material in the piano action. The advantages of this stable, smooth-running, and durable material over wood are obvious: no breakage under continuous heavy use and no shrinking or expanding due to climate changes. The introduction of ABS action parts is an example of outstanding development in modern piano manufacturing, widely recognized by pianists and piano technicians worldwide. In 2006, KAWAI introduced the Millennium III Upright Action keyboard to realize the three most important elements for pianists: speed, touch control, and effort. The introduction of the even more stable ABS carbon material enabled the development of lighter action parts. Repetition and touch control were significantly improved.
The Sound of the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Concert Grand, Reproduced with the Latest SK-EX Rendering Sound Technology
When the acoustic components are muted, the KAWAI AnyTimeX4 pianos use a unique digital technology developed in the Shigeru Kawai R&D lab in Ryuyo, Japan, where the KAWAI SK-EX concert grands are also handcrafted. The beautiful sound of the Kawai SK-EX concert grand is the heart of the new AnyTimeX4 pianos. The world-renowned Shigeru Kawai models are prized for their tonal clarity and are regularly featured on stages of concert halls and music institutions. To reproduce the impressive sound of the Shigeru grand as naturally as possible, Kawai developed the new SK-EX Rendering sound engine, characterized by high-resolution multi-channel sampling of all 88 keys combined with the latest resonance modeling technology. The multi-channel sampling includes sounds recorded from multiple positions on the Shigeru Kawai concert grand, reproducing a broader spectrum of tonal characteristics and enabling more lively, authentic sound variations during dynamic playing. This natural and expressive sound is further enriched by physical modeling with newly developed resonance algorithms.
IHSS Sensor System
The volume of each note on an acoustic piano depends on the speed with which the hammers strike the strings. A gentle keystroke causes a slow hammer movement and produces a low volume. A fast keystroke causes a fast hammer movement, resulting in a high volume. The AnyTimeX4 instruments precisely reproduce this behavior through integrated sensors in the piano action that detect the movement of each hammer. Whether playing fast passages with repeated notes or slow, quiet pieces, KAWAI’s Integrated Hammer Sensing System (IHSS) provides pianists with top-class expressive possibilities, allowing the finest nuances in playing. IHSS works far more accurately than key sensor techniques.
Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio
In addition to the MIDI ports for connecting to other MIDI devices, the AnytimeX4 piano is equipped with Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio technology, enabling wireless communication with supported smart devices (e.g., smartphone or tablet). Once paired with a smartphone, tablet, or other smart device, the AnytimeX4 owner can comfortably use a wide range of music-related apps with the instrument or wirelessly play audio files stored on the paired device through headphones connected to the AnytimeX4 piano.
Connections
Two headphone jacks are easily accessible on the front below the keyboard. Additional connection options such as USB to Device, USB to Host, and audio input are also available. Wireless connections via Bluetooth (MIDI LE and Audio) with supported smart devices are possible as well.
PianoRemote App - Digital Convenience
To use all functions and sounds, you need the "PianoRemote" app. Please download the "PianoRemote" app from the Android Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. This app allows you to control functions such as transposition, tuning, metronome, Virtual Technician, Dual/Split, and of course sound selection. A large number of high-quality sounds are available, enabling you to play a wide variety of styles. You can also easily record songs with the app and share them via your smart device’s share function.
Extensive Sound Selection
In addition to the new SK-EX Rendering sound engine, the AnytimeX4 series is equipped with the popular Harmonic Imaging XL technology. This includes alternative acoustic piano sounds and a wide selection of additional tones. For example, the special sound of the Kawai EX concert grand, which – alongside other grands – is often chosen internationally by professional pianists for events like the Chopin, Tchaikovsky, or Rubinstein piano competitions. The sounds of the mid-sized Shigeru Kawai grand SK-5 and the acoustic Kawai piano K-60 give players the opportunity to experience different tonal characteristics from various grand sizes or an acoustic piano. In addition to acoustic piano sounds, the AnytimeX4 series offers a broad range of other sounds, such as electric pianos, drawbar or church organ, strings, and choir sounds, allowing musicians to play a very diverse range of genres. The Dual mode allows simultaneous playing of two different sounds (e.g., grand and strings) layered on the keyboard, while the Split or Four-Hand mode divides the keyboard into left and right zones.
Customize the Sound Character to Your Preferences
The Virtual Technician function integrated in the PianoRemote app lets you easily change the sound character of the selected acoustic piano, harpsichord, or electric piano sound via the display. For example, you can adjust the intensity of string, damper, and cabinet resonances or the noise of the returning hammers. You can even change and save the pitch and volume of individual notes.
Lesson Function
The lesson function in the AnytimeX4 series enables aspiring pianists to practice many well-known pieces from piano lessons by Czerny, Burgmüller, Beyer, Bach, and Chopin, which are stored in the instruments. Additionally, the lesson function includes a total of 40 traditional finger exercises, scales, and warm-ups. The sheet music for these pieces is included.
Energy Saving
The AnytimeX4 models feature an automatic shut-off function. The instruments turn off after a certain period of inactivity.
Comfortable and Stable Piano Bench
This piano bench offers high-quality features alongside its elegant appearance, such as sturdy legs with non-slip rubber feet, a smooth, precise spindle mechanism for height adjustment, and a durable, comfortable seat covered in corduroy. The sophisticated spindle mechanism with double scissor system guarantees smooth and extremely durable height adjustment.
