Since the 1970s, Yamaha's cult reference monitors with the white cone have set the standard across the audio industry for their accurate, authentic reproduction. Other studio monitors may flatter the ear with emphasized bass and highs on first listen — but they can also lead you way off when judging a mix. Yamaha's HS models deliver reference sound you can trust throughout the whole mixing process for honesty and precision.

Yamaha's speaker engineers combined decades of expertise with deep know-how during development. State-of-the-art technology was used throughout and the product was refined until monitors emerged that rank among the most reliable reference listening systems in the audio world. The second generation of the HS series not only improves on previous models but also adds a new 6.5" model, giving you even more choices for your studio.

Newly Developed Drivers

The HS series features newly developed drivers that deliver remarkably balanced reproduction across a wide frequency range. The response of the speaker magnets and the magnetic field they create were perfected, playing a major role in achieving immaculate, natural-sounding transduction. All assemblies, including their raw materials and circuit designs, were carefully inspected and optimized to ensure absolutely accurate signal reproduction across the entire audible spectrum.

High-Performance Amplifiers

The HS-series amplifiers are perfectly matched to the drivers for each model. Thanks to the bi-amplified design, the tweeter and woofer each have their own dedicated amplifier. These amps are of outstanding quality and make a significant contribution to the monitors' high-resolution sound and linear frequency response.

Cabinet Design Minimizes Resonances

A special cabinet construction prevents unwanted resonances in the HS series, allowing reproduction precision to be pushed to the limit. The cabinets are made from durable MDF with optimal damping properties, ideal for studio monitors. Drawing on Yamaha's 100+ years of piano-building experience, the HS engineers used a traditional three-way miter joint. This construction locks the cabinet panels firmly at the corners, making the units not only very durable but also keeping unwanted resonances—which could otherwise negatively affect the sound—under control.

Innovative Methods to Reduce Noise

Bass-reflex ports can add more punch, but they can also negatively affect sound. The problem is turbulence at both ends of the port channel, which creates air vibrations that in turn produce unwanted noise. Through careful analysis, Yamaha engineers optimized the bass-reflex channel and minimized its tendency to generate turbulence, resulting in noise reduction of up to 6 dB. This allows HS-series monitors to meet the strictest production requirements.

Controls and Connections

The full-range HS models feature two tone controls to adapt the speakers to the acoustic properties and shape of the room boundaries. ROOM CONTROL lets you reduce the exaggerated bass that inevitably occurs when speakers are placed near walls. HIGH TRIM allows you to adjust the high-frequency response. On the input side, the full-range speakers are equipped with TRS and XLR jacks for balanced and unbalanced connections to everything from keyboards and mixers to audio interfaces.

The HS8S subwoofer lets you set the cutoff frequency of the switchable low-pass filter (HIGH CUT) between 80 and 120 Hz. The high-pass filter at the output (LOW CUT) can also be positioned between 80 and 120 Hz. PHASE lets you invert the phase at the subwoofer output. The HS8S subwoofer has XLR outputs (L, R and EXT SUB). Inputs are available in both TRS and XLR formats.

Stage Pro-Line cables use oxygen-free copper, ensuring long-lasting, consistent quality and protection against corrosion. The connectors are hand-soldered and feature a cable clamp strain relief so the solder joints are free from mechanical stress. A high-density copper shield effectively protects the audio signal from handling noise and electromagnetic interference from power supplies and mains cables. This results in low conductor capacitance and crystal-clear audio transmission.

Adapter Cable

The Stage JXM is a professional, balanced audio cable recommended primarily as a patch or adapter cable—for example to adapt balanced keyboard or stage piano outputs or mixer outputs from 6.3 mm TRS to XLR, since adapter plugs are often too bulky for closely spaced jacks. The JXM is also ideal for home studio wiring.
