Handcrafted Small-Diaphragm Capsule

Each capsule is lovingly handcrafted and individually tuned in the sE factory. The ultra-thin, gold-sputtered diaphragm delivers impressive transient response and captures even the smallest details. The precisely manufactured electrode is optimized for maximum linearity and natural reproduction, resulting in a very even, balanced frequency response.

Precise, Frequency-Homogeneous Directionality

Thanks to the sophisticated acoustic design with precision parts, a largely frequency-homogeneous directional characteristic is achieved. This prevents tonal coloration, especially in demanding recordings.

The Quietest Small-Diaphragm Microphone in Its Class

The extremely short signal path, discrete components, and optimized Class-A circuitry make the sE8 one of the quietest microphones on the market—and by far the quietest in its class. Outstanding transparency, enormous dynamic range, and very low distortion are ensured by a novel circuit design with a transformerless output stage.

Two-Stage Attenuation Filter

High flexibility and an extended dynamic range are achieved through the attenuation filter. The two stages prevent overload of the electronics and the connected microphone preamp or audio interface right at the start of the signal chain. This allows even very loud instruments like brass and snares to be easily miked up close.

Two-Stage High-Pass Filter

The integrated high-pass can be switched between 80Hz and 160Hz to reduce unwanted rumble and footstep noises, as well as to dampen bass boost caused by close miking (proximity effect).

Robust Metal Housing and High-Quality Finishes

The thoughtful construction is especially durable and effectively shields the electronics against electromagnetic interference.

Convincing stereo recordings require microphones with the highest consistency and outstanding performance. Therefore, sE selects each pair from hundreds of individual microphones to guarantee nearly identical transmission characteristics. Only this way is it possible to achieve the highest possible correlation across the entire frequency range and nearly identical sensitivity. The result is breathtaking, almost three-dimensional recordings.

Accessories for Professional Stereo Recordings

Anyone aiming for high-quality recordings will hardly avoid using a microphone shock mount. Since the mounts for the microphones are fully rubber-mounted, vibrations from the mic stand hardly reach the capsule. Besides the two shock mounts, there is a 30 cm long stereo bar for precise microphone adjustment. This results in significantly better speech and vocal recordings than with a conventional mic clip.
