For the final audio results, the performances of leading Yamaha drum artists were sampled by a team of experienced sound engineers. The project leader and professional in electronic musical instrument development relied on a highly specialized recording process to capture the detail of every single cymbal and drum in its full naturalness in the best possible way.

Through careful tuning of the sound module to the pads acting as interfaces, the DTX6 series models can follow every nuance of a drum performance with outstandingly expressive response.

The KIT MODIFIERS combine Yamaha’s decades of sound-shaping expertise with AMBIENCE, COMPRESSION, and EFFECT in the form of three easy-to-use knobs. Thanks to Yamaha developers’ great commitment, users benefit from a wide range of sonic options—from the natural sound of a drum set, through the sound of a live performance, to expansive effects.

The AMBIENCE knob lets you precisely adjust the natural room component and reverb level of a drum kit. For the sampled acoustic drum sounds, the AMBIENCE MODIFIER blends between 0 to 50% of the original recording room’s ambience and above 50% adds a high-quality reverb algorithm to the main signal.

The COMP and EFFECT controls use the familiar and convenient one-knob operation known from Yamaha’s PA series.

The COMP effect, which can be subtle or unmistakably present, applies global compression to the overall kit sound, while EFFECT controls the mix of internal effects. The processors remain fully adjustable and offer a long list of various effects to choose from.

Yamaha’s original TCS head surface uses a foamed silicone material containing thousands of tiny air bubbles. With a perfect mix of firmness and rebound capability that withstands hard hits, the TCS technology offers a realistic and natural playing feel that won’t let you down and will make you want more.

Additionally, a floating structure without direct contact to the head and shell prevents vibrations from transferring to other components. At the same time, the sensitivity of the pads is significantly increased, and the air bubbles inside the TCS heads dampen the stick sound similar to the function of a cushion.

A Detailed Reproduction of Your Drum Performance

The DTX6 series features three-zone pads for snare, crash*, and ride. The snare model offers the main articulations: head, closed rim, and open rim. The cymbals have zones for edge, bow, and bell response, as well as the option for manual choking at the edge. Overall, the technology used ensures a wide range of possible performance techniques, allowing drummers to improve not only their accuracy but also their expression.

A More Musical Ride

The ride cymbal pad offers different sensor zones that trigger various sound variants depending on the position. In practice, this means that combined with the high-resolution and unusually long samples of the DTX-PRO, detailed cymbal playing can be accurately reproduced.

The DTX-PRO module inherently offers the possibility to communicate not only with other technical equipment but also with the outside world. Via USB, MIDI data can be received and sent, as well as digital audio signals exchanged with a computer or smart device. The device also features a MIDI OUT port that supports sending corresponding data to external devices. Moreover, up to 14 pads or drum triggers can be connected to the module via trigger inputs, making the creation of a hybrid kit from electronic and acoustic drums a breeze.

An App That Makes Recording, Editing, and Sharing Content Easy

The DTX-PRO module is compatible with the iOS/Android app Rec'n'Share, which supports you not only in playing along with tracks but also efficiently practicing your songs. You can easily change the tempo of the backing track, add a click track, or loop individual sections. These features make practicing your favorite songs even more effective. The Rec'n'Share app can also easily record your own playing in audio format or combined as video using the connected smart device’s camera.
