The Industry Standard Among Hybrid Sampling Pads!

Since 2011, the SPD-SX has established itself as a staple on professional stages worldwide. With its distinctive design, it regularly appears alongside both digital and hybrid drum kits. This groundbreaking Roland instrument sparked a true sampling pad revolution. A key factor was the wide range of tracks, clicks, loops, and one-shot sounds. With the SPD-SX, drummers and other performers can record, store, and trigger any kind of sound—a milestone in making live performances sound like the original studio production. Beyond sampling and import functions, the SPD-SX offers versatile preset kits and a large pre-installed sample library, including loops, one-shots, and melodic phrases, to spark new ideas and instantly turn them into music.

Designed for Performers

The SPD-SX builds on the pioneering SPD-S and sets a new standard among sampling pads. With its professional features, this powerful pad has become an essential companion for drummers and all other creative live performers. It also withstands the rigors of life on the road and impresses night after night on and off stage. Whether you're playing a club nearby on the weekend or heading out on a major stadium tour—the SPD-SX won’t let you down.

Sampling, Importing, and Triggering Audio Files

The SPD-SX gives you access to a whole universe of sounds. Trigger a full track, a song part, effect, click track, or a one-shot sound from a single pad. You also have full control over how audio files are played back. Whether you’re playing cover versions in clubs or reproducing your own productions on a concert stage—the SPD-SX delivers studio-quality sound to your live shows.

Sampling, Importing, and Triggering Audio Files
Velocity-Sensitive Pads

Velocity-Sensitive Pads

The SPD-SX features nine velocity-sensitive rubber pads that you can assign any sound to. When you tap the pads lightly, the sound plays quietly. The harder you hit, the louder the sounds. You can also set a pad to a fixed velocity value if needed. This way, a sound always plays at the same volume, no matter how hard you strike the pad.

LED Indicators

Each SPD-SX pad has a red LED light for stage visibility and pad status indication. Depending on your performance needs, you can set how the LEDs behave. You can choose for the LEDs to stay on or off constantly, only light up when the sample on the pad is playing, or dynamically react to the audio signal, similar to a level meter on a mixing console.

Memory and Sounds

Memory and Sounds

Can you ever have too many sounds? With its 16 GB memory, the SPD-SX stores 25 hours of stereo audio material (50 hours in mono) in 44.1 kHz/16-bit WAV/AIFF format. The pad comes with 210 pre-installed samples, including loops, one-shots, and melodic phrases. Additionally, 100 kit memory slots are available for your own layouts. The factory includes 16 preset kits. In the Roland Cloud, you’ll find a huge, ever-growing collection of samples and loops for every music style.

Powerful Sampling Features

With the SPD-SX’s deep sampling features, you can quickly and easily create your own unique sounds. Connect a microphone or mono/stereo line-level device to the analog inputs or hook up a computer via USB. Using the Basic Sampling function, you can sample a sound and assign it to a single selected pad. Multi-Pad Sampling lets you assign and save audio samples across multiple pads. The SPD-SX even allows you to re-sample a complete performance including effects.

Powerful Sampling Features
Playback Types

Playback Types

Once your sounds are recorded and stored, you control playback via three customizable modes: Single, Phrase, and Loop. Choose Single for simple percussion sounds like drum hits and claps. Phrase mode suits longer samples that play fully to the end. Loop mode also plays files from start to finish, then seamlessly restarts playback.

Trigger Types

Need even more control over your audio playback? No problem. The trigger type determines how a sample plays when a pad is hit. “Shot” plays the sample as soon as the pad is struck. “Alt” starts or stops playback with each pad hit. For maximum flexibility, trigger and playback types can be combined. Plus, the lightning-fast trigger response keeps you locked in the beat without distraction.

Trigger Types
Integrated Audio Editing

Integrated Audio Editing

Life on the road can be hectic. Sometimes you need to adjust sounds quickly and easily. With the SPD-SX’s built-in editing tools, you can edit samples without a DAW. Trim samples, set start/stop points, adjust volume and pitch, and more. You can even cut multiple samples at once or split a single sample into several and assign them to different pads.

Add Effects

The SPD-SX taps into the power of three effect engines. You can use two effect engines simultaneously: master effects and kit effects. The master engine affects all kits and includes 21 effect types to enhance your performance. The three general master effect presets on the front panel include filter, delay, and short loop, affecting all audio signals playing through the pads at that moment. The two assignable kit effects only activate when you hit a pad within a selected kit patch. You can also toggle kit effects on and off.

In and Out

In and Out

Live players need plenty of connection options. With the SPD-SX, it’s easy to get sounds in and out of the pad. Discover a variety of outputs for simple mixing and monitoring. Via USB, you can use the SPD-SX Wave Manager software to import, organize, and record sounds. You can also expand your rig with up to four external pads, two footswitches, and other accessories.

Audio Outputs

The SPD-SX offers a variety of flexible output and routing options, letting you seamlessly send pad sounds to different destinations for mixing and monitoring. Use the master outputs Left/Right to send a stereo audio signal or two mono signals to a mixing console. The sub outputs Left/Right can send signals to a monitor engineer or for band member monitoring. You can also listen to your setup or a click track through the connected headphones.

USB Audio/MIDI

Connect your SPD-SX to your computer via USB cable to record your sounds and performances in a DAW. MIDI data can also be transmitted via USB. The standard MIDI input/output allows control of software instruments, additional stage equipment, and automation software like Ableton.

USB Audio/MIDI
Easy Sound Import

Easy Sound Import

There are two ways to quickly load audio files into the SPD-SX. You can load files onto a USB flash drive and copy them to the pad. Or use the free SPD-SX Wave Manager to drag and drop audio files from your computer onto individual pads. The software also features intuitive tools for backups and organizing kits for different gigs.

Roland KT-10 Kick Trigger Pedal!

The Roland KT-10 trigger pedal features a compact design with a "Reverse Trigger" mechanism, where the beater strikes the playing surface backward, offering a natural playing feel with very low noise. The KT-10 is significantly quieter than the combination of a kick pad and standard kick pedal with beater.

Its small footprint makes it ideal as a second kick pedal in an acoustic/electronic drum set or in combination with an SPD series percussion pad, a HandSonic HPD-20, or a V-Drum set.

Pad Stand for Roland SPD & HandSonic!

With the extremely stable Roland PDS-20, you can fully focus on playing your Roland SPD percussion pad or HandSonic percussion instrument.

Compared to its predecessor, the PDS-10, stability and durability have been further optimized. This includes larger rubber feet and 33 percent thicker, double-braced steel legs. Along with the massive coated mounting plate, the grooved clamps allow flexible positioning of the stand for maximum playing comfort.

Carrying Bag for SPD-SX/SPD-SX PRO Sampling Pad

The lightweight and robust Black series instrument bags are ideal for musicians on the go. The durable outer material and thick padding inside protect your instrument from dents and scratches caused by impacts. Comfortable shoulder straps ensure easy transport.

Sticks

The XDrum sticks offer comfortable playability and excellent sound characteristics at an incredible price. Their grippy surface prevents annoying slipping while the extra-hard wood ensures long durability.
