The handpan is an extremely beginner-friendly instrument where percussion and melody come together. Playing the handpan produces calming, spherical, long-sustaining soundscapes that completely captivate both player and listeners. No prior experience or music-theory knowledge is required, because the tone fields on a handpan all lie within a fixed scale. On most models it's not possible to strike dissonant, i.e. 'wrong'-sounding notes.

This lets you play entirely by intuition and, after only a short time, lose yourself in mysterious, dreamy melodies. With a bit of practice, more complex rhythms, captivating chords, and two-part melodies are of course possible. A handpan works just as well as a solo instrument as it does for playing with other handpans or instruments like tongue drums, guitar, or percussion.

Kurd Tuning

The D Kurd tuning (fundamental frequency 440 Hz) is one of our best-selling scales. The central note in the middle of the handpan is D3, and arranged in a circle around it are the notes A3, Bb3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, and C5. With its bright-sounding D minor scale, the D Kurd allows you to play a wide variety of melodies — from calm and meditative to melancholic, to powerful and joyful. Especially practical: a scale overview with the individual tone fields is laser-engraved on the underside of the handpan.

Includes Bag

Each Sela handpan is delivered with a bag made from tear-resistant nylon fabric, whose good padding provides optimal protection during transport. It can be carried by hand using the two handles or comfortably worn as a backpack thanks to adjustable shoulder straps. A practical exterior pocket offers enough space for small accessories like a metronome.
