The handpan is an extremely beginner-friendly instrument where percussion and melody meet. Playing the handpan produces soothing, spherical, long-sustaining soundscapes that captivate both the player and the listener. No prior experience or music-theory knowledge is required, because a handpan's tone fields are laid out on a fixed scale. On most models it's not possible to strike dissonant, or 'wrong'-sounding, notes.

That means you can follow your own intuition while playing and, after only a short time, lose yourself in mysterious, dreamy melodies. With a little practice, more complex rhythms, captivating chords and two-part melodies become possible. The D Amara tuning (fundamental frequency 440 Hz) is one of the most popular handpan scales overall. The central note in the middle of the handpan is D3, and arranged in a circle around it are the notes A3, C4, D4, E4, F4, G4, A4, C5 and D5. Thanks to its bright-sounding D minor scale, the D Amara lets you play a wide variety of melodies — from calm and meditative to melancholic to powerful and joyful. Especially practical: the underside of the handpan has the scale overview with the individual tone fields laser-etched.

Each Sela handpan ships with a bag made from tear-resistant nylon fabric that, thanks to its generous padding, provides optimal protection during transport. It can be carried by hand using the two handles or comfortably worn as a backpack thanks to adjustable shoulder straps. A handy exterior pocket offers enough space for small accessories such as a metronome.
