The CA 701 offers, in addition to the leading Grand Feel III wooden keyboard, now new SK-EX Competition Grand Piano sounds, which provide more detail and a fuller, rounder tone thanks to the further improved multi-channel SK-EX Rendering Sound Engine. This new version of the flagship Shigeru Kawai pianos uses completely new samples recorded specifically from the player’s position, impressing with tonal clarity, high definition, and full attack sound.

Grand Feel III Keyboard with Real Wooden Keys, Touch Point Simulation, and Ebony & Ivory Touch Surfaces

The CA701 is equipped with the Grand Feel III mechanism with wooden keys, enabling an exceptionally realistic playing feel. The key length of the Grand Feel III keyboard (from the front edge of the key to the balance rail pin) is longer than any other digital piano keyboard. All eighty-eight black and white keys are made entirely from long wooden parts. Like on a grand piano, each key moves smoothly on a balance rail. When a key is struck, a weighted hammer moves upward just like the original. Additionally, the triple sensor system ensures optimal repetition and playing control.

The graded weighted hammers evoke a true grand piano feel. Furthermore, weights are integrated into the front area of each key on the Grand Feel III keyboard to provide an even better balance between pronounced fortissimo and fatigue-free playing with perfect control in pianissimo. The Grand Feel III keyboard also features a touch point simulation that ensures perfect control when playing pianissimo. All 88 keys of the Grand Feel III keyboard are equipped with ivory-like coverings (Ebony & Ivory Touch), which give the player more security and excellent playing control through a grippy surface.

The beautiful sound of the Kawai SK-EX concert grand is the heart of the new CA701. You now find it in two variants: as the SK-EX Concert Grand like the previous model, and newly as the SK-EX COMPETITION GRAND.

The new SK-EX COMPETITION GRAND sound was newly and elaborately sampled from an SK-EX concert grand of the latest generation selected for international competitions. With multiple microphone positions, the sound of this special grand piano was captured with all its nuances and is characterized by a more powerful tone and greater dynamics. The subsequent mixing of the various microphone positions is oriented towards the player’s position, unlike the SK-EX Concert Grand, which sounds more like from the audience’s perspective.

To reproduce the impressive sound of the Shigeru grands as naturally as possible, Kawai has further developed the SK-EX Rendering sound generation, which features high-resolution multi-channel sampling of all 88 keys combined with the latest resonance modeling technology. The multi-channel sampling includes sound recorded from multiple positions of the Shigeru Kawai concert grands, which can reproduce a broader spectrum of tonal characteristics and thus enables more lively, authentic sound changes during dynamic playing. This natural and expressive sound is further enriched by the use of physical modeling with newly developed resonance algorithms. The complex overall sound, composed of strings, pedals, and many other parts of an acoustic concert grand, gives the player the feeling of sitting in front of a real instrument.

6 Speakers with 360° Diffusers

In addition to hi-end audio signal processing, digital 110-watt amplifiers, and a high-quality headphone amplifier, the CA701 is equipped with 6 speakers and 360-degree diffusers for the upward-facing speakers. These specially developed components create a sound experience that distributes the natural sound throughout the room, allowing listeners to hear just as the player does without any loss in quality.

Alternative Acoustic Piano Sounds and a Wide Selection of Additional Sounds

Besides the new SK-EX Rendering sound generation, the CA701 is also equipped with the popular Harmonic Imaging XL technology. This includes alternative acoustic piano sounds and a wide selection of additional sounds. For example, you will also find the special sound of the Kawai EX concert grand. The sounds of the mid-sized Shigeru Kawai grand SK-5 and the acoustic Kawai piano K-60 give the player the opportunity to explore different tonal characteristics from various grand piano sizes or an acoustic piano.

In addition to the acoustic piano sounds, the CA701 offers an extensive selection of other new sounds, such as electric pianos, drawbar or church organ, string or choir sounds, enabling the musician to play a very diverse range of genres. The dual mode allows simultaneous playing of two different sounds (e.g., grand piano and strings) layered on the keyboard, while the split or four-hand mode enables dividing the keyboard into a left and right section.

Change the Sound Character to Your Liking with the Virtual Piano Artisan (VPA)

With the integrated Virtual Piano Artisan function in the CA701, you can easily change the sound character of the selected acoustic piano, harpsichord, or electric piano sound via the display. For example, you can adjust the intensity of string, damper, and cabinet resonances or the noise of the falling hammers. You can even change the pitch and volume of individual notes and then save them to a favorite memory slot.

Touchscreen Operation

The CA701 features a 5" anti-reflective, anti-glare touchscreen. All functions can be operated with ease. Additionally, you can control the CA701 via the PianoRemote app available for Android and iOS, which essentially mirrors the internal system. The display can completely switch off during inactivity, so you are less distracted while playing.

Bluetooth Audio/MIDI

In addition to the USB-to-host connection, the CA701 is also equipped with Bluetooth® MIDI 5.0 technology, enabling wireless communication with smart devices (e.g., smartphone or tablet). This gives you the ability to comfortably use a wide range of music-related apps such as the Kawai PianoRemote app or the PiaBookPlayer app in conjunction with your CA701 digital piano. Or simply use the Bluetooth® Audio 5.1 interface. Just connect your smartphone to the CA701 and enjoy all your music directly through the CA701’s speaker system. This is especially recommended for play-along or listening to tutorial videos.

USB to Device Functionality with MP3/WAV Recording and Playback

The CA701 is equipped with USB ports that not only allow you to exchange MIDI data with a connected computer. For example, you can also save data directly to a USB storage device. Direct playback of songs by your favorite artists in MP3 or WAV format is also possible. You can record your own playing in MP3 or WAV format and, for example, send it to your friends by email, listen to the songs on a smartphone or PC, or burn them to CD on your PC.

Design and Ergonomics

The CA701 impresses not only with its many internal features but also with its new modern design, which is a real eye-catcher. Better ergonomics were also considered: the pedal position is shifted further back, allowing better playing ergonomics. The Pronomic KH-900 is a professional stereo headphone that combines excellent sound characteristics with maximum wearing comfort at an affordable price. The soft, wide synthetic leather headband automatically adjusts to the head size, ensuring a comfortable fit.
