A true workhorse from the respected Artisan Series is the Artisan C4 Plus bass, which has received several significant detail improvements: ergonomically enhanced body contours like on the premium Artisan A models, as well as the MetalCraft M bridge for excellent vibration transfer and the stunning look thanks to the Ovangkol top combined with the classic Antique Brown Burst finish.

Ovangkol Top with Maple Center on Mahogany Body

The highly refined aesthetic of Ovangkol with its cinnamon-brown stripes is hard to resist. Known as an excellent tonewood, Ovangkol has a very close sonic resemblance to rosewood or bubinga. Pronounced, full mids and rather soft highs characterize Ovangkol; combined with the very clear and overtone-rich maple and the warm, full-sounding mahogany body, this creates an excellent symbiosis of woods in terms of tone.

The Bartolini dual-coil MK-1 pickups deliver a dynamic tone with massive, cutting mids and crystal-clear highs.

Markbass MB-1 Preamp

The Markbass MB-1 EQ preamp provides a very neutral, transparent preamplification of the bass, supporting the instrument’s core character. It produces the typical feel of passive electronics with smooth bass, cutting mids, and bell-like highs. The Markbass 3-band EQ preamp transmits the bass’s tone uncolored and authentic.

MetalCraft M Bridge

The solid, mass-rich MetalCraft M bridge was developed with a focus on easy handling and improved vibration transfer. The strings can be threaded either traditionally from the back into the bridge or through the body (string-through-body) to achieve either the classic tone or more sustain and a more focused tone through the body. Another improvement in vibration properties is the deep, individual slots where the saddles sit absolutely precisely and cannot shift. This ensures a clean transfer of string vibrations to the body. MetalCraft M4 and M5 have a string spacing of 19mm on the M4 and 18mm on the M5 bridge.
