The SV-2 contains more than ten times the sample data of previous SV models and offers a wealth of brand-new piano and keyboard sounds. It features 72 premium sounds and 64 memory slots for instant access to favorite sounds during performance. With the SV-2 Editor software you can now create custom split and layer programs and save them as favorites.

These can include up to three timbres at once—for example a piano/bass split with a string layer. While splits are defined with the SV-2 Editor, the keyboard split point can be set directly on the control panel. Thanks to polyphony expanded to 128 voices, the SV-2 now supports even more impressive sound layers and endlessly sustained chords.

Authentic Sound Reproduction

The SV-2 uses advanced audio sampling technology and meticulous instrument tuning to deliver particularly refined and flawless reproductions of many keyboard classics. Only the best-preserved instruments and the most modern multi-microphone techniques were used for the sample recordings.

Whether key dip, hammer rebound or contact click—each of these authentic artifacts is remarkably preserved in the RX layer and can be mixed into the sound in any amount. The full dynamic range of every instrument is also faithfully preserved, reproducing all tone color and volume variations from ppp (pianississimo) to fff (fortississimo) in virtually infinite nuance.

This comprehensive sampling system creates an almost three-dimensional sense of space that lets the instruments occupy their own place in the mix.

Coveted Classics

Experience a wealth of classic electromechanical, transistor-based, tape-driven, analog and digital keyboard instruments in stunningly realistic form. These sounds defined decades of pop music and remain highly sought after. On the SV-2 these legendary tones sit right under your fingertips—perfectly tuned, in pristine condition and completely maintenance-free. It’s all there.

E-pianos, including common American tine and reed models, an electric grand from Japan and a rare German electric piano. And of course various clavinets. Prefer electronic pianos? Choose from analog, digital, VPM, FM and sampled versions—such as the ever-popular KORG M1 Piano. Organs include tonewheel classics, VOX combos, Italian transistor or American valve versions, plus large church and cathedral organs.

Strings from a rare '70s string machine, tape strings from the prog era or a warm orchestral section are also included. The SV-2 also features mallets, brass, choirs, guitars, basses and solo and pad synths—perfect for building lush layers or practical splits.

Total Control

With the SV-2 you take control. No LCD screen or nested menus. The inviting and familiar control panel reacts immediately to your actions—you turn a knob, find the sweet spot and experiment to your heart’s content. Maybe try again? Pressing a knob instantly restores the originally programmed value.

LED-lit buttons indicate active effects, transposition and other details. Sounds are selected via two rotary knobs. The eight illuminated buttons in the center of the panel can instantly recall any of the favorite presets with individual sounds and settings.

Another SV-2 feature is its Panel Lock function, which prevents accidental preset changes when the favorite buttons are touched—also protecting against unauthorized manipulation. The free SV-2 Editor software provides even deeper, more detailed control options.

Agile and Expressive

All SV-2 Stage Vintage instruments are equipped with KORG’s best-weighted RH3 hammer-action keyboard. As with a concert grand, the key weighting varies and requires a harder touch in the low registers and a lighter touch in the high registers.

The RH3 keybed responds very sensitively to the nuances of a performance and reproduces every expressive element with the highest precision. The keyboard response can be matched to any playing technique or style using one of eight individual velocity curves.

Eight tuning curves—including equal temperament, stretched grand tuning, stretched electric-piano tuning, electric concert grand, stretched A tuning, detuned (honky-tonk) and two user memories (configurable with the SV-2 Editor)—provide absolutely authentic tuning options.

The global tuning can be adjusted to match other instruments or recording tracks and reset to concert standard (A = 440) with one button. The SV-1 is of course also freely transposable to any key.

As Real As The Original

Precisely tuned effects give every vintage keyboard sound the final convincing polish. The SV-2 offers six independent stages of studio-grade signal processing, finished off by the KORG Valve Reactor. The Valve Reactor circuit adds the extra warmth or saturation that only a real 12AX7A vacuum tube can provide.

Free SV-2 Editor

Some musicians want not only to enjoy the onboard features but also to dig into the SV-2’s inner workings. The SV-2 Editor is a convenient tool for editing, managing, cataloging and saving edited sounds as favorites. The editor also provides access to hundreds of other sounds not directly available from the panel.

You can create personal split and/or layer favorites and store them, and download new SV-2 libraries released by KORG to update your sound catalogs. Of course you can share sound data with other users. The SV-2 Editor is included with the SV-2 and runs on Mac and PC. Get the free editor here
