The Rebirth of a Digital Delay Legend
The Roland SDE-3000 first saw the light of day in 1983, at the dawn of the digital effects era, and today holds legendary status among vintage gear fans. With its distinctly musical character, long delay times, and the ability to save and recall presets, this rack legend became the go-to delay for the best live guitarists, session musicians, and sound engineers of its time. Even 40 years later, the unique sound of the SDE-3000 has lost none of its appeal.
With the SDE-3000D, you get not just one but two authentic recreations of the coveted original in the compact format of a stompbox pedal. Beyond its fully independent delays, the flexible internal routing options and expanded input/output capabilities offer plenty of versatility for all kinds of modern mono and stereo rigs. The modulation and tone-shaping possibilities have also been enhanced. Additionally, 100 memory slots are available to store your favorite setups. At the same time, the SDE-3000D’s inspiring vintage sounds can be seamlessly integrated into any live or studio setup thanks to a wide range of internal and external control options, including MIDI.
Digital Retro Magic
Musicians and engineers often reach for certain classic effects because they reliably enhance any sound. The SDE-3000 has that magical effect. When used with live instruments, the digital delay reveals its full expressive power. It features an especially wide dynamic range, adjustable delay phase, extensive modulation options, and a transparent yet warm delay sound lasting for seconds. The SDE-3000’s sound shaped the music of the 1980s and 1990s and remains a source of inspiration for sound explorers and effect enthusiasts worldwide. With the SDE-3000D, you can now use the same delay sounds that helped produce some of the most famous songs of all time.
Faithful Reproduction
Unlike the clear, precise sound of most digital delays, the SDE-3000 stood out with its warm, musical tone. This was based on a thoughtful and complex digital signal processing combined with the nonlinear behavior of the supporting analog circuitry. This included the varying frequency response of the preamp depending on input level, the magnetic saturation of the anti-alias filter, and the changing modulation due to time components. In developing the SDE-3000D, we thoroughly analyzed all these factors to preserve the special character of this venerable classic in the modern era.

Authentic Details, Modern Enhancements
The SDE-3000D offers nearly all parameters of the SDE-3000 on a retro user interface derived from the original vintage hardware. The two selectable delay ranges feature different frequency characteristics that largely shaped the appealing sound of the original. Additionally, the distinctive tonal color of the external feedback loop circuit has been recreated. This can be optionally disabled or further shaped with an internal EQ on the SDE-3000D. Furthermore, 100 memory slots are available (the original offered only eight), including a carryover function when switching sounds.
Master of Modulation
The modulation circuit of the SDE-3000 also contributed to the unmistakable sound of the effect processor. Besides the usual controls for depth and rate, you can also switch the phase of the original delay and the feedback loop separately to influence the modulation effect. The response of the analog LFO in the original has been faithfully reproduced in the SDE-3000D. In addition to the original triangle wave, a sine wave is now also selectable. We have also expanded the delay phase adjustment options to enable a wider range of sounds.

Two SDE-3000s in One Pedal
The original SDE-3000 was a mono delay. The SDE-3000D gives you two independent delays with separate parameters and selectable mono or stereo modulation for each delay. You can run both delays in parallel and pan them to create dynamic stereo panoramas. Or you can use a serial configuration for complex rhythms and a reverb-like depth effect. Thanks to versatile audio inputs and outputs, you can output effects as a stereo signal, route each delay to its own output, or split the effect and dry signals for wet/dry setups.
Modern Performance in a Compact Format
With its pedal-based design and expanded control options, the SDE-3000D is far more flexible than its rack predecessor. The three footswitches let you select memory slots, control functions like tap tempo and delay hold, temporarily activate effects, and more. The two control inputs allow connection of up to four footswitches, two expression pedals, or a GA-FC/GA-FC EX. MIDI I/O is also available for external control. The wide range of assignable targets enables comprehensive real-time control that goes far beyond the capabilities of the original SDE-3000.
