Masterful Sound, Exceptionally Creative Versatility!

Packed with newly developed BOSS technology, the DD-500 is the most versatile stompbox delay ever built. An astonishing toolkit for sound designers with 12 distinct delay programs in extraordinary audio quality, controls for deep editing, a graphic display, patch memory, MIDI and much more. From simple echoes and faithful recreations of classic delays to breathtakingly dense and spacious textures, the DD-500 will lift your music to a level you didn’t think possible.

12 Versatile Delay Programs With Deep Editing Options

With the DD-500 you can create any delay sound you can imagine. Everything you need is built in. From warm or gritty vintage delays and tape echoes to modern delay lines with pitch-shifting, filters or other unique signal processing. The onboard controls make it easy to tweak the essential parameters and craft great sounds in no time. Each delay type also includes a semi-parametric 4-band EQ, modulation, ducking and many other parameters so you can dive deep into the subtleties of your tone. Maximum precision for your sound.

Unrivaled Sound Quality

Every single delay program in the DD-500 has been crafted with care. To ensure outstanding sonic character and clear musical results in every setting, the high-performance DSP runs at 32-bit/96 kHz. While the DD-500’s delay effects operate on an absolute "high-end" digital level, the core guitar signal remains 100 percent analog. You decide whether the signal runs in "Buffer mode" or "True Bypass" operation. To reinforce the analog dry signal, a "Buffered Bypass" has also been added. This also ensures that delay and echo tails aren’t unnaturally cut off when the effect is switched off.

Expanded Capabilities for Stage and Studio

In the world of advanced delay stompboxes, the DD-500 is truly unique in terms of usability: the large LCD fully supports the pedal’s immense capabilities. The clear display of delay time, patch ID and intuitive navigation for detailed parameter settings, names and system management makes deep editing straightforward. With the USB connection you can quickly link to a computer for full patch backup or for MIDI controller exchange with your DAW of choice.

Intensive Real-Time Control

With freely assignable knobs, the DD-500 delivers unprecedented creative options and flexibility. Factory-assigned A, B and TAP/CTL switches provide intuitive control for two patches, bypass, bank selection, tap tempo and more. The switches can be reassigned to other operations as you wish. Instantly choose three different delay patches or select two delays at once to create layered sounds. Instead of tap tempo, you can assign other real-time functions to the TAP/CTL switch, such as Warp or Twist. A wide range of expressive effects is possible. Further parameters can be controlled via optional expression pedals and external switches. MIDI IN & OUT open additional control options for large and modern guitar setups.

DD-500 Delay Modes

  • Standard — clear digital delay.
  • Analog — emulates a classic analog "BBD" delay / bucket-brigade memory (e.g., BOSS DM series).
  • Tape — emulates the warm sound of a tape echo unit, like the Maestro Echoplex and the legendary Roland RE-201 Space Echo.
  • Vintage Digital — emulation of the early digital delays of the '80s, such as Roland's famous SDE-2000 and SDE-3000 (19" units) and the BOSS DD-2, the original stompbox digital delay.
  • Dual — two independent delay lines that can be wired in series or parallel.
  • Pattern — 16 different delay lines that produce separately adjustable rhythmic effects.
  • Reverse — backward delay for cool psychedelic effects and other far-out sounds.
  • SFX — "Special Effects" delay with a very unique sonic character.
  • Shimmer — pitch-shift delays for rich, heavenly textures.
  • Filter — delay with a sweeping filter.
  • Slow Attack — wide-area delays that increase with your playing dynamics.
  • Tera Echo — animated ambient effect derived from the innovative BOSS TE-2 pedal.

DD-500 Assignable Control Functions

The following functions can be assigned to the TAP/CTL switches and/or optional external footswitches. These settings are saved in the patch.

  • Tap — sets the delay time to the song tempo.
  • Hold — the delay feedback is held continuously while the switch is pressed.
  • Warp — increases delay feedback and level at the same time for a highly expressive effect.
  • Twist — controls multiple delay parameters with one press, producing wild sounds as if you’d changed several knobs on the DD-500 at once.
  • Moment — the delay sound is only audible while the switch is held down.
  • Roll 1/2 — changes the delay time to half of the selected setting (hold the switch!).
  • Roll 1/4 — changes the delay time to one quarter of the selected setting (hold the switch!).
  • Roll 1/8 — changes the delay time to one eighth of the selected setting (hold the switch!).
  • Fade In — fades the delay sound in.
  • Fade Out — fades the delay sound out.
  • Assign 1-8 — enables assigning up to eight different delay parameters at once.
