The Yamaha YDS-122 is a versatile digital saxophone that pairs authentic saxophone playability with the practical advantages of modern digital technology. As the successor to the popular YDS-120, this digital saxophone brings two key upgrades: an expanded sound palette with 87 sounds instead of 73, and a modern USB-C connector replacing the previous Micro-USB. With 56 saxophone timbres, a sensitive breath sensor, a saxophone-style key layout and a 15-step volume control, the YDS-122 is ideal for beginners, experienced saxophonists and anyone who wants to practice flexibly at home, on the go or with headphones.

More Sound Variety Than the YDS-120!

The Yamaha YDS-122 broadens the musical possibilities of its predecessor by offering additional instrument voices. You get 87 preset sounds in total, including 56 saxophone sounds for soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones — 14 more timbres than the YDS-120. Besides classic saxophone voices, you can play other wind instruments, electronic textures and various instrumental voices. Yamaha’s high-quality AWM sampling technology delivers natural, detailed sound reproduction. Whether jazz, pop, classical or experimental music: this electronic wind instrument opens up an impressive range of musical expression.

USB-C Instead of Micro-USB — The Modern Connection!

Another important update on the YDS-122 is the revised USB-TO-HOST port. While the YDS-120 used a Micro-USB Type B, the new digital saxophone features USB-C. That lets you connect the instrument conveniently to compatible computers and mobile devices. The port supports MIDI functions and communication with the Yamaha YDS Controller App. The USB connection can also be used to power the instrument from a suitable USB power source.

Natural Playing Feel With Saxophone Fingering!

The key layout of the Yamaha YDS-122 follows that of an acoustic saxophone. Experienced saxophonists can use their familiar fingerings, while beginners benefit from a realistic playing approach. The built-in breath sensor detects air pressure and enables dynamic control of sound generation. Together with the analog controller, you can shape your performance expressively. The specially designed mouthpiece simplifies tone production — no traditional saxophone embouchure is required. For easy maintenance, the mouthpiece is removable.

Practice Flexibly — Even With Headphones!

With the 15-step volume control you can adapt the instrument to different practice situations. The integrated speaker lets you play out loud, while the headphone jack enables very quiet, undisturbed practice. An additional AUX IN input lets you connect external audio sources so you can play along to music from a smartphone. The headphone output is used for playback of the external audio signal.

The Yamaha YDS Controller App lets you conveniently tweak instrument settings and sound parameters. You can also change the fingering to suit your personal preferences.
