B&S MS14 - A Masterful Instrument!
By using red brass—widely employed in instrument making in the United States—the instrument makers created an exceptionally new instrument with the "Stolzing" quart trombone model from B&S's Meistersinger series.
All B&S "Meistersinger" trombones are handcrafted. The trombone slides with extended slide bells improve playability and stability in positions 5 through 7. The red brass bell delivers a warm yet very focused sound.
The F attachment features a German-made cylinder valve and the proven 3B joint system. The asymmetrical bends on the main slide and quart valve are key to a particularly easy and fast response.
Background of the "Stolzing" Model from the Meistersinger Series
The namesake "Stolzing" is one of the main characters from Richard Wagner's opera "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg," which trombonist Prof. Carl Lenthe often performed during his time at the Munich State Opera. In the opera’s story, the young knight Walther von Stolzing competes in the Nuremberg singing contest to win the beautiful Eva.
Eva, the daughter of a goldsmith, falls in love at first sight with the young tenor "Stolzing." Ultimately, his outstanding singing talent convinces the judges, earning him not only admission to the mastersingers’ guild but also the hand of his beloved Eva.
Carl Lenthe is a Professor of Music (Trombone) at Indiana University Bloomington (Jacobs School of Music) and co-developed the "Stolzing" model by combining characteristics of American and European brass instrument making.
