Lechgold Solist F - A Real Alphorn Dream Come True!
Lechgold alphorns captivate with their original and warm sound, which unfolds best outdoors but also in large concert halls or venues. When we hear the magical sound of the alphorn, we immediately associate it with dreamy mountain landscapes and beautiful nature...
Top Price, Solid Craftsmanship, Ideal Intonation
Lechgold offers you this emotional and extraordinary experience at an unbeatable price-performance ratio. The range includes the F horn, which is the most played in Austria and Germany, the F# horn preferred by the Swiss, and the slightly smaller Bb horn.
The three-piece Lechgold alphorns consist of hand, middle, and bell tubes and are delivered including a fixed glued bell, foot, and a standard 19 mm wooden mouthpiece.
Model Solist F in Walnut - Light and Clean Response
Round sound, clean tuning, and easy response - these are priorities in the manufacture of Lechgold alphorns. With a thin wall thickness of 7 mm and a bell diameter of 200 mm, the intonation-stable and consistent alphorns score with a light and clean response.
Noble and Resistant Wood
The alphorn is made of solid walnut wood, which is resistant to external influences such as shocks and impacts. The dark wood looks noble and graceful, and the unique grain makes each alphorn a one-of-a-kind.
The alphorn itself is made of solid walnut wood. Bell ring, bell foot, and mouthpiece knob are made of solid maple.
Gold-Anodized & Absolutely Tight Connection Sockets
The connection sockets of the tubes are gold-anodized and therefore extremely abrasion-resistant.
Stability, perfect fit, and absolute tightness are ensured by three rubber sealing rings each at the connection sockets between hand tube and middle tube as well as between middle tube and bell tube. This highest quality connection technique was adopted from the Lechgold "top class" model and is now used in all Lechgold alphorns.
The Mouthpiece
As a standard mouthpiece, Lechgold supplies a maple mouthpiece with a 19 mm inner bell diameter and a 5.5 mm bore. These are dipped in linseed oil and coated multiple times.
The conical mouthpiece of an alphorn resembles in shape and tone color that of a French horn. Besides the shape, the wood of the mouthpiece also influences the hardness of the tones.
100% Made in Austria
Lechgold alphorns are crafted with great care from Austrian woods of higher Alpine regions. It is important that the tree grew slowly and therefore the annual rings are close together. This allows improved vibration. The wood is slowly dried over several years to avoid tension and warping.
Different Tunings Through Optional Hand Tubes
By using a different hand tube, the tuning of the alphorn can be changed quickly and easily. This option offers the possibility to play a larger repertoire of pieces without having to carry a complete second instrument. This saves weight, space, and money.
In our range, hand tubes are available in all tunings (F, Bb, and F#) and versions.
The Natural Harmonic Series of the Alphorn
Unlike keyboard and plucked instruments, alphorns produce only tones of the natural harmonic series. This series consists of tones whose frequency is an integer multiple of the fundamental tone (e.g., F horn = 43.654 Hz). Depending on the tuning of the instrument, this natural harmonic series covers 12 to 16 different tones.
Conveniently, the natural tones are the same as those of conventional wind instruments. Thus, the natural harmonic series of an F alphorn corresponds to that of an F tuba or an F French horn. The series of Bb-tuned instruments corresponds to that of a Bb trombone. Switching to an alphorn is therefore easy if you already play a "normal" wind instrument.
