Strictly speaking, the mouthpiece is the crucial part, as it forms the so-called sound generator, also known as the tone generator by acousticians. The beautiful, expensive clarinet made of fine wood and the silver-plated or gold-lacquered shiny saxophone are - physically speaking - "only" the resonators.
