About Alexander von Puttkamer

Originally, Alexander von Puttkamer wanted to learn trumpet. But the local music school had no free spots left. A family friend and aspiring tubist handed him a small tuba to try out. Since Alexander von Puttkamer immediately took to the instrument, he stuck with it.

He gained his first orchestral experience in various youth orchestras such as the National Youth Orchestra, the "Young German Philharmonic," and the European Union Youth Orchestra. After completing his studies with Walter Hilgers at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, he became a member of the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg in 1996.

The Bavarian State Opera Orchestra (1998 - 2004) and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich (2004 - 2007) were further stops on his path to the Berlin Philharmonic.

Alexander von Puttkamer, who has regularly performed with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since 1999, plays golf, is interested in wine and art, and enjoys visiting museums whenever his two young daughters allow him the time.
