With its eleven OSC models, the SH-4D offers a broad spectrum of sound generation options. Classic
The new SH-4D model is inspired by the legendary Roland SH synthesizers and delivers fat vintage analog-style sounds based on up to four different waveforms. Alternatively, choose the SH-3D model, where the fourth part is replaced by an additional LFO. Even a chord model for jamming and creating complex chord changes using single notes and simple slider movements is included.
Modulated
The ring model delivers distinctive metallic textures based on deep sound-shaping options using crossfade parameters, waveforms, tuning, and more. With the sync model, you can quickly and easily create synchronized oscillator sounds with dynamic harmonies and powerful envelope curves.

The SH-4D includes iconic sounds from Roland’s rich history. With authentic sounds from the SH-101 and JUNO-106 models, you can produce classic analog-style tones. Additionally, enrich your tracks with the PCM model and its vast selection of sample-based sounds from our historic library.
Everything Under Control
With a total of 32 rotary knobs, four sliders, and numerous multifunction buttons, new sounds and performances emerge spontaneously. Rhythm
The rhythm part operates separately from the rest and offers 49 preset kits plus 64 slots for your own creations. Each kit provides 26 instruments, each with two combinable waveforms, individual EQ, and numerous synthesis tools for precise sound shaping.

Whether you’re working on a sound or a pattern, the filter, amplifier, and LFO sections are always ready to shape new material. The newly developed ladder filter enables multi-mode operation with interactive drive and resonance parameters, envelope control, and an independent high-pass filter to tame any sound.
The amplifier section offers ADSR and quick level adjustments, while the extensive LFO section provides a variety of waveforms, fade, filter, pitch, and more.

The SH-4D is packed with famous Roland effects that let you refine, roughen, or completely transform your sounds and patterns. Use the intuitive controls and menus during your performance to access various effect types, tweak parameters, set send levels, and much more.
Maximum MFX, Maximum Impact
Each sequencer part has its own MFX processor with 95 effect types. From filters, drive, and lo-fi effects to delays, pitch shifters, phasers, flangers, and the famous JUNO chorus—you’ll always find the perfect effects for your style.
Global Tonal Colors
The SH-4D includes shared chorus, delay, and reverb effects with send controls for each part, plus buttons on the control surface for quick activation/deactivation. Besides an MFX processor at the pattern output, a global EQ and compressor are also available for fine-tuning the overall mix.
Moving Music
The SH-4D features built-in motion sensors that let you hold the synthesizer and change sounds by physically moving the device. With D-Motion, you control two assignable parameters on the X/Y axis. The unique Visual Arpeggio function is also available to shape note patterns playfully via interactive displays.
Multitimbral Sequencing
The SH-4D sequencer is always ready to turn sound ideas into compact loops or extended compositions. The interface is designed to make spontaneous sound development even more intuitive. With up to 60 polyphonic voices, there’s enough processing power to fully realize your musical ideas within the SH-4D.
Inspiring Engine
The SH-4D offers fast Roland sequencing with four synthesizer parts and a separate rhythm part. Two different step recording modes are available. Besides step-by-step input of up to eight notes per step, you can simply record in real time what you play. Fine-tuning velocity values and other parameters can then be done in the list view. Patterns can also be modified with backward/random playback, first step/last step, and other performance functions.
Mix & Mute
In pattern mode, the OSC section and LCD display of the SH-4D turn into a mixer where you can adjust levels and create arrangements. Control the volume of individual parts, set mute and panning, and always keep an eye on the different effect send levels.
If you’re not in pattern mode, you can mute parts and individual pattern steps with a quick button press or unmute them just as easily.

Motion Recording
Start real-time recording to capture knob and slider movements. To refine individual motion sequences, you can either record another pass or open the list editor and begin fine-tuning. If you want to start completely fresh, you can quickly and easily delete all recorded movements in a pattern with one command.
Tools with a Surprise Factor
The SH-4D offers many more ways to add color and detail to your sounds and creations. By setting probability values per step, you encourage creative chaos. You can also add flams and ratchets via sub-steps. Besides the Visual Arpeggio function, a traditional arpeggiator is of course available to generate evolving note patterns.

A Major Upgrade for the SH-4D!
The SH-4D has always been a true synthesizer monster. With the free upgrade, it now becomes even more powerful. The v2.0 update expands the sonic possibilities of the SH-4D with two new oscillator models (HARMONIC and STEP), pattern chain for seamless performances and compositions, and much more.
With HARMONIC, experience the power of additive synthesis. Use the classic drawbar organ setup to shape powerful, layered sounds—from dominant basses to bell-clear chimes to deep pads. The drawbars are automatically assigned to the SH-4D sliders, enabling precise and intuitive control of the complex harmonic overtone structure.
STEP is a dynamic OSC model based on step-based LFO modulation to create dynamic movements in sounds. Set up to 16 steps per cycle. For each step, 37 curve shapes are available, defining the temporal changes of the sound and controlling pitch, filter cutoff, amplitude, and panning.
Comfortable Stereo Headphones
The KH-238 delivers a full, balanced sound with rich bass reproduction and clear highs. It offers plenty of volume yet clean and precise stereo imaging. The softly padded, wide headband is length-adjustable with 12 steps per side for optimal fit. For even more comfort, the ear cups are mounted on two-axis swivels. The thick, soft padding of the circumaural cups also provides good external noise isolation. The integrated volume control on the cable is always at hand, simplifying use with PCs or mp3 players. The 3.5 mm stereo jack plug ensures excellent transmission quality, and a 6.3 mm stereo adapter is also included in the package.
