A Powerful Compact Synthesizer With Analog Modeling Sound Engine

The microKORG is a powerful yet compact synthesizer with strong character—designed to convey pure joy when creating sounds.

The microKORG uses the same DSP synthesis as KORG's MS2000B (2 oscillators) but offers many more waveforms. Oscillator 1 provides 71 different waveforms, including analog classics like sawtooth, pulse, sine and noise, as well as newer options like Vox Wave and Cross Wave. That already delivers a lot of variety—but you can modulate these waveforms extensively.

There's more: you also get 64 exclusive DWGS waveforms from the KORG classic DW8000, so the microKORG can act as an "imitator." Bells, electric pianos, guitars, basses, etc., which are hard to simulate with purely "analog" waveforms, are no problem and significantly enrich the synthesis. When using Oscillator 2 you can also apply sync and ring modulation to achieve entirely new timbres.

In addition to the four filter modes, there are two ADSR envelopes and two LFOs (MIDI-syncable) to give sounds their final polish. On top of that, a virtual patch matrix enables even more sophisticated modulation routings—e.g. assigning the modulation wheel to the filter cutoff or pulse width, controlling stereo position or level with an LFO, and so on. No other synthesizer in this price class offers this much power!

Razor-Sharp Filter Section On Board

The microKORG's multi-mode filter lets you choose between four filter modes: -12dB (2-pole) LPF, HPF, BPF, and an extra-steep -24dB (4-pole) LPF. All filter modes have adjustable resonance and can be driven into self-oscillation. These extremely sharp and precise filters give you the flexibility to shape any sound, from classic fat basses to cutting dance leads.

Amp Section With Powerful Presence And Distortion

The amp section allows you to shape and control a sound's level over time. In addition to volume and panorama, you can engage a powerful distortion. Use this to give a sound extra bite and presence—perfect for intense, forward sounds!

EG (Envelope Generators) And LFOs Provide Key Tonal Changes

Envelopes let you create time-dependent changes to a sound, with the classic ADSR (Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release) commonly used as a modulation source. Two LFO types are provided for rhythmic modulation of timbre as well. Fast DSP processors ensure effects like vibrato, wah and tremolo run smoothly in the signal path.

Virtual Patches For Even More Complex Sound Creations

The microKORG also includes a Virtual Patch function that simulates the flexible modulation routing of classic KORG analog synths like the PS or MS series. Each patch consists of a modulation "SOURCE" [1], a modulation "DEST" [2], and a modulation depth "MOD INT" [3]. A modulation source—such as Filter EG, Amp EG, LFO 1/2 or the Modulation Wheel—can be freely assigned to parameters like Pitch, Cutoff or Amp for even more complex sound designs.
