The latest generation Korg volca fm is a powerful 6-voice FM synthesizer with 6 operators, all 32 classic algorithms, a 16-step loop sequencer, built-in effects, and a mighty arpeggiator that easily reproduces the sound of the classic Yamaha DX7. It even goes so far that original DX7 patches can be transferred to the volca fm via SysEx.

The volca fm is powered by batteries (included) or an optional power adapter. Its compact and lightweight housing contains a speaker, so you can access pristine FM sounds on the go without relying on headphones.

With twice the polyphony of its predecessor, additional effects, expanded MIDI capabilities, and an intuitive user interface, the latest generation volca fm becomes a true asset for any live rig or studio.

With 6 polyphony voices (instead of 3 like its predecessor), the new volca fm multiplies its harmonic possibilities.

Finally, you can play more complex chords, program them into the sequencer, or run them through the arpeggiator to give your productions a unique flair.

Furthermore, the new volca fm now supports velocity sensitivity via MIDI, which, combined with the 6-voice polyphony, enables a particularly expressive and nuanced playing feel.

More Effects

Due to high demand, the new volca fm offers not only the well-known chorus effect but also a warm, soft reverb effect. Both effects can be used simultaneously and adjusted separately to give your FM sounds a special touch.

Connection and Sequencing of External Sound Sources

In addition to the MIDI IN jack, the new volca fm features a MIDI OUT connection (IN/OUT 3.5 mm stereo mini jack).

This allows controlling external MIDI sound sources via the volca fm’s sequencer, which is a significant advantage especially in live settings.

Since the MIDI IN jack receives not only note and control commands (CC) but also MIDI clock signals, connecting to a DAW is no problem.

Powerful Sequencer

The internal sequencer features 16 steps that can be entered via the touch keyboard. Up to 16 self-programmed sequence patterns can be stored internally.

Additionally, the volca fm offers a motion sequence function for fine-tuning: recording dynamics and knob changes ensures a musical and colorful playback. This brings your loops to life and creates an overwhelming wow effect in live performances.

New Random Function and Much More

To add even more spice to your productions, the new volca fm lets you generate new sound programs randomly, because experience shows that nothing sparks inspiration like the proverbial "happy little accidents."

Of course, popular features like Warp Active Step and Pattern Chaining remain onboard. The revamped arpeggiator also allows completely crazy rhythm and pattern loops.

Besides the Active Step function, which lets you skip desired steps in a sequence, the volca fm enables creating even more irregular rhythms. As long as fewer than 16 sequence steps are activated, the Warp Active Step function distributes the remaining steps across the 16 sequence subdivisions. When synchronized with another volca device, the timing is adjusted to create entirely new rhythmic figures.

The Pattern Chain function allows setting the playback order of multiple patterns and thus extending a run to 32, 64, or even 256 steps by combining up to 16 sequences into one large sequence.

In terms of sound generation, the volca fm is the perfect rebirth of the Yamaha DX7, which made waves in the music scene with its FM synthesis. The 6 operators and 32 algorithms exactly match the original’s setup, so sounds in SysEx/SYX format can be easily loaded.

With its MODULATOR/CARRIER knobs, the volca fm makes FM synthesis interesting even for musicians without scientific background: the knobs control multiple parameters each, allowing intuitive and quick sound manipulation.

Despite the built-in speaker, it weighs only 360 g (without batteries) and is thus perfect for stand-alone use. Comfortable Stereo Headphones

The KH-238 delivers a full, balanced sound with rich bass reproduction and clear highs. It offers plenty of volume yet clean and precise stereo imaging. The softly padded, wide headband is length-adjustable with 12 steps on each side for optimal fit. For even more comfort, the ear cups are mounted on two-axis swivels. The thick, soft padding of the circumaural ear cups also provides good external noise isolation. The integrated volume control on the cable is always within reach, simplifying use with a PC or mp3 player. The 3.5 mm stereo jack plug ensures excellent transmission quality, and a 6.3 mm stereo jack adapter is also included.
