Korg SV-2 - The Evolution of a Modern Classic!

Never before has a single instrument captured the signature sound, unique playing experience, and aesthetic pleasure of so many iconic keyboards like the KORG SV-2 Stage Vintage Piano.

Ten years ago, KORG launched its Stage Vintage product line to great acclaim. The combination of an intuitive live control panel, excellent keyboard, ultimate vintage sound reproduction, world-class piano tones, authentic retro effects, and elegant design has inspired musicians worldwide for over a decade.
Available with 88 or 73 keys, the SV-2 models represent the latest evolutionary step in the Stage Vintage series and significantly surpass its features.

More sounds. More memory. More polyphony. More presets. More control. It meets and even exceeds all expectations for a contemporary stage piano. Not to forget, the new SV-2S models with integrated K-ARRAY speaker system.

More. More. More.

The SV-2 contains more than ten times the sample data of previous SV models and offers a wide range of brand-new piano and keyboard sounds. It features 72 premium sounds and 64 memory slots for instant access to favorite sounds during performance. With the SV-2 Editor software, you can now create your own split and layer programs and save them as favorites.

These can contain up to three timbres simultaneously – for example, a piano/bass split with a string layer. While the splits are defined with the SV-2 Editor, the keyboard split point can be set directly on the control panel. Thanks to polyphony extended to 128 voices, the SV-2 now enables even more impressive sound layers and chords held for any length of time.

Authentic Sound Reproduction

The SV-2 uses optimal audio sampling technology and meticulous instrument tuning, delivering an especially sophisticated and flawless reproduction of numerous keyboard classics. Only the best-preserved instruments and the latest multi-microphone techniques were used for the sample recordings.

Whether key release, hammer rebound, or contact click – each of these authentic artifacts is astonishingly precisely preserved in the RX layer and can be mixed into the sound in any proportion. The full dynamic range of each instrument is faithfully maintained, reproducing all tonal and volume variations from ppp (pianississimo) to fff (fortississimo) in nearly infinite nuances.

This comprehensive sampling system creates an almost three-dimensional spatial impression, allowing the instruments to take their individual place in the mix.

Coveted Classics

Experience a wealth of classic electromechanical, transistor-based, tape-driven, analog, and digital keyboard instruments in stunningly realistic reproduction. These sounds defined decades of pop music and remain highly sought after. With the SV-2, these legendary tones are right at your fingertips – perfectly tuned, in flawless condition, and completely maintenance-free. Everything is there.

Electric pianos, including all common American tine and reed models, an electric grand piano from Japan, and a rare German electric piano. And of course, various clavinet sounds. Or maybe electronic pianos? Choose from analog, digital, VPM, FM, and sampled versions – such as the ever-popular KORG M1 piano. The organs include tonewheel classics, VOX combos, Italian transistor or American tube versions, as well as voluminous church and cathedral organs.

Strings from a rare 70s string machine, tape strings from the prog era, or a warm orchestral section are also included. Additionally, the SV-2 contains mallet instruments, brass, choirs, guitars, basses, as well as solo and pad synths, allowing you to create wonderful layers or practical splits.

Piano Paradise

The SV-2 is naturally a stage piano. With the push of a button, you can access outstanding grand piano sounds from around the world – including pianos from leading German, Italian, Austrian, and Japanese piano makers. Essential for modern pop productions are also authentic Japanese or German pianos in the SV-2’s sound library. Or even exotic instruments like a real honky-tonk or a pristine tack piano.

Not to forget, a fantastic French and German harpsichord. These superb piano sounds, playable alone or as layers and splits, form a strong musical foundation and offer valuable performance options.

Total Control

With the SV-2, you take control. No LCD screen or nested menus. The inviting and familiar control panel responds immediately to your actions – turn the knob, find the sweet spot, and experiment to your heart’s content. Want to try again? Pressing the knob instantly restores the originally programmed value.

LED-lit buttons indicate activated effects, transposition, and other details. Sounds are selected via two rotary knobs. The eight illuminated buttons in the center of the panel instantly recall any of the favorite presets with individual sounds and settings.

Another feature of the SV-2 is its panel lock function, which prevents sound changes when the favorite buttons are accidentally touched – also protecting against unauthorized tampering. The free SV-2 Editor software offers even more detailed and deeper control options.

Agile and Expressive

All SV-2 Stage Vintage instruments are equipped with KORG’s best weighted RH3 hammer keyboard. Like a grand piano, the keyboard weighting varies, requiring a heavier touch in the lower registers and a lighter touch in the higher registers.

The RH3 keyboard responds very sensitively to the nuances of a performance and reproduces every expressive element with the highest precision. The keyboard response can be adjusted with one of eight individual velocity curves to suit any playing technique and style.

Eight tuning curves, including equal temperament, stretched grand piano tuning, stretched electric piano tuning, electric grand piano, stretched A tuning, detuned (honky-tonk), and two user memories (configurable with SV-2 Editor), ensure an absolutely authentic sound image.

The overall tuning can be adjusted to other instruments or recording tracks and reset to concert standard (A=440) at the push of a button. The SV-1 is, of course, freely transposable to any key.

As Real As The Original

Precisely tuned effects give every vintage keyboard sound the final convincing touch. The SV-2 offers six independent stages of studio-quality signal processing, refined by the KORG Valve Reactor. The Valve Reactor circuit delivers the additional warmth or overdrive only a real 12AX7A vacuum tube can provide.

Like the available sounds, the effects are as real as the originals and an exact replica in terms of performance, limitations, and response. The effect stages consist of:

  • 3-BAND EQUALIZER (bass, mid, treble)
  • PRE FX (Red Compressor, Treble Boost, U-Vibe, Vibrato, Tremolo, VOX Wah)
  • AMP MODEL (Clean, Twin, Tweed, AC30, Boutique, Organ, plus several types of cabinet simulations and noise reduction)
  • MODULATION EFFECTS (Classic Chorus, Black Chorus, Orange Phaser, Small Phaser, MX Flanger, Rotary)
  • REVERB/DELAY (Room, Plate, Hall, Spring, Tape Echo, and Stereo Delay)
  • LIMITER/REVERB/DELAY (Room, Plate, Hall, Spring, Tape Echo, and Stereo Delay)

These easy-to-use effects and amp models are an exact reflection of their heyday and give every vintage or modern sound convincing authenticity.

Modern Connections

The SV-2 features all the connections for audio signals, digital data, and foot pedals of a modern professional stage piano. In addition to the left and right 6.3 mm jack outputs, there are left and right XLR outputs, allowing you to connect the instrument directly to a studio mixer or multicore without a DI box or impedance converter.

A headphone output for private practice or monitoring the stage performance is, of course, included. MIDI IN and MIDI OUT DIN sockets serve for communication with other MIDI instruments or MIDI-capable audio devices. Data exchange between the SV-2 and a computer takes place via the USB port.

The pedal inputs DAMPER, PEDAL 1, and PEDAL 2 are flexibly usable. The included DS-2H damper pedal allows authentic half-pedaling like on a grand piano. PEDAL 1 can connect a footswitch, which can be used as a sostenuto pedal or fast/slow switch for the rotary effect.

PEDAL 2 accepts either a continuous expression pedal – for authentic wah-wah effects or precise volume variations on the organ – or another footswitch, which acts as a soft pedal (una corda) for piano sounds, offering the piano purist the familiar third pedal function.

Free SV-2 Editor

Some musicians want not only to enjoy the wealth of onboard features but also to delve deeply into the SV-2’s inner workings. The SV-2 Editor is a convenient tool for editing, managing, cataloging, and saving edited sounds as favorites. It also provides access to hundreds of other sounds not directly accessible via the control panel.

Furthermore, you can create personal split and/or layer favorites and save them in memory, as well as load new SV-2 libraries published by KORG to update your sound catalogs. Of course, all sound data can also be shared and exchanged with other users. The SV-2 Editor is included with the SV-2 and runs on Mac and PC. Here’s the free editor

Detachable Keyboard Stand with Height Adjustment

This very sturdy, double-braced keyboard stand provides secure support for all common stage pianos, master keyboards, portable keyboards, and synthesizers up to a maximum of 30 kg. Thanks to its extremely robust construction, it is also ideal for tough everyday use on stage. The practical quick-release allows easy adjustment to 5 different heights.

The robust rubber sleeves provide absolutely slip- and scratch-resistant support, and the practical leveling parquet protectors (4 on the feet and 2 on the top) ensure more stability even on uneven surfaces. To shift the weight or compensate, the rubber protectors can be rotated and adjusted as needed.

Excellent Seating Comfort in a Compact Size

Despite its compact dimensions, the Classic Cantabile keyboard bench offers excellent seating comfort. The padded top is covered with elegant black faux leather and can be easily cleaned if necessary.

The bench is height-adjustable in 3 steps via a screw on the X of the legs. When setting up, one of the legs is simply hooked under the seat surface and fixed with two screws. Rubber feet also ensure a non-slip stand.

Comfort Headphones

The KH-238 delivers a full, balanced sound with rich bass reproduction and clear highs. It offers plenty of volume yet clean and precise stereo imaging. The softly padded, wide headband is length-adjustable. The extension provides 12 steps on each side for optimal fit. For even more wearing comfort, the ear cups are mounted on two axes. The thick, soft padding of the circumaural cups also provides good external noise isolation.

The integrated volume control on the cable is always at hand, making it easy to use with a PC or mp3 player. The 3.5 mm stereo jack plug offers excellent transmission properties, and a 6.3 mm stereo jack adapter is also included.

Piano Method Book

Every beginning is easy – this motto also applies to the new edition of Michael Christoph’s piano method. Anyone afraid that piano is too difficult to learn definitely needs this method. The instrument is introduced and explained to beginners in a playful, relaxed way. Starting with familiar, simple melodies up to two-handed playing of complete songs, some theory knowledge is also conveyed along the way. Reading notes, rhythm, dynamics, and much more are covered alongside the exercises. The simple exercises guarantee quick learning success.
