Vox Valvenergy Cutting Edge - Nutube Preamp in Pedal Format!

The VALVENERGY series includes 4 analog Nutube tube preamps in pedal format, specializing in the authentic sound of various tube amplifiers, and offering exceptional versatility with three different operating modes.
VOX has been running a dual approach for some time, producing traditional tube amps alongside amps with the innovative Nutube tube technology. The experience gained has been consolidated to ensure that guitar pedals with Nutube behave just like a full-fledged tube amplifier.
The response and playing feel are so realistic that all the tube sounds demanded today can be effortlessly delivered. Additionally, these pedals feature a novel channel switching function and a line-level output, leaving all other pedals far behind.
What Is "Nutube"?
Nutube is a new type of tube developed by KORG and Noritake Itron Corporation that uses the properties of vacuum fluorescent displays to produce a warm and rich tube sound. A Nutube has an anode-grid structure that behaves exactly like a full-sized triode tube. This results in the same overtone richness and response as conventional amplifier tubes.
- Equipped with a Nutube for rich tube sound and inspiring response
- Bypass buffer for low-noise signal transmission when the effect is off
- Multiple connection modes for different applications
- CHANNEL-SWITCH function for behavior like a multi-channel amplifier (when using multiple VALVENERGY pedals)
- OLED display with graphical sound visualization
Nutube for Rich Tube Sound and Authentic Response
The Nutube, jointly developed by KORG and Noritake Itron, is the heart of every VALVENERGY pedal. It delivers the response, overtone structure, and punch of a real tube amplifier. The VALVENERGY series offers robust tube sounds in 4 flavors.
CUTTING EDGE
This pedal produces a brutal and assertive metal sound. It features 4 tone controls with plenty of expressive potential, from "tight" distorted sounds for riffs to mega-fat lead tones.
- GAIN control: Determines distortion intensity
- VOLUME control: Sets output level
- TREBLE control: Adjusts the amount of high frequencies. Turning left makes the sound rounder and duller; turning right brightens the tone
- MIDDLE control: Adjusts mid frequencies. Turning right emphasizes mids; turning left creates the classic "scooped" sound
- BASS control: Adjusts low frequencies. Turning left thins the sound; turning right adds punch
- TIGHT control: Controls how distortion affects the bass content of the signal. This setting greatly influences the distortion sound and provides a more defined tone, especially during palm muting
Circuits with Enormous Potential
The VALVENERGY series runs fully analog circuits powered by a 9V supply boosted to 15V. This provides a huge level boost and enough headroom for a wide dynamic range. This circuit design allows full use of the various VALVENERGY features.
Three Different Operating Modes for More Flexibility
The output mode can be changed to suit your needs.
STANDARD: The pedal outputs an instrument-level signal, allowing connection to a guitar amp input.
PREAMP: The pedal outputs a line-level signal, enabling connection to the return jack of a combo amp or the input of a power amp connected to guitar cabinets.
CAB-SIM: The pedal outputs a line-level signal with cab simulation. In this mode, it can be connected directly to a mixing console or used for guitar recordings to a DAW (or audio interface).
Built-In Channel Switching
A standard 3.5mm stereo cable can connect the CH-SW jack (Channel Switch) to the same jack on another pedal. Then only one of the two pedals is active when you press the footswitch—just like switching between two channels on a guitar amp.
Using a 3.5mm stereo Y-cable, you can even connect 3 pedals together.
OLED Display with Graphical Sound Visualization
The high-contrast OLED display on these pedals shows an oscilloscope—a graphical representation of waveform distortions caused by the control settings—in real time!
