The new HS3 and HS4 studio monitors from Yamaha extend the successful HS series downward. The two compact two-way speakers feature 3.5 (HS3) and 4.5 (HS4) inch woofers as well as powerful Class-D amplifiers. The active electronics with multiple connections and professional room tuning options are integrated into the left speaker, while the right speaker is passive, keeping wiring neat even on the go. The back of the HS3 and HS4 features combined XLR/TRS combo, RCA, and stereo mini inputs, enabling connection to a wide range of professional and consumer devices such as computers, audio interfaces, mixers, and electronic instruments. The most commonly used controls—power button, volume knob, and headphone jack—are conveniently located on the front.

Newly Developed Transducers

The HS series features newly developed transducers that provide remarkably balanced reproduction over a wide frequency range. The response of the speaker magnets and their magnetic field were perfected, playing a major role in flawless, natural sound conversion. All components, including raw materials and circuit design, were carefully tested and optimized to achieve absolutely accurate signal reproduction across the entire audible audio spectrum.

High-Performance Amplifiers

The HS series amplifiers are perfectly matched to the transducers of each model. Thanks to the "bi-amplified" design, tweeters and woofers each have their own amplifier. The amps are of outstanding quality and contribute significantly to the high-resolution sound and linear frequency response of the studio monitors.

Low Resonance Cabinet Construction

A special cabinet design prevents unwanted resonances in the HS series. This allows playback precision to be pushed to the limit. The cabinets are made from durable MDF with optimal damping properties, ideal for studio monitors. Drawing on over 100 years of piano-building experience, Yamaha engineers used traditional three-way miter joints. This construction firmly anchors the cabinet panels at the corners, making the units very durable and controlling unwanted resonances that could negatively affect overall sound.

Innovative Methods for Minimizing Noise

Bass reflex ports can add punch but may also negatively affect sound. The problem lies in turbulence at both ends of the port channel, causing air vibrations that generate unwanted noise. Through careful analysis, Yamaha engineers optimized the bass reflex channel and minimized turbulence, resulting in noise reduction of up to 6 dB. This enables HS series monitors to meet the strictest and most demanding production standards.

Controls and Connections

The full-range HS models feature two tone controls that allow you to tailor the speakers to the acoustic characteristics and shape of your room boundaries. ROOM CONTROL lets you reduce the bass boost that naturally occurs when speakers are placed near walls. HIGH TRIM lets you adjust the treble response. On the input side, the full-range speakers have both jack and XLR sockets for balanced and unbalanced connections to all kinds of devices, from keyboards and mixers to audio interfaces.

The HS8S subwoofer allows you to set the cutoff frequency of the switchable low-pass filter (HIGH CUT) between 80 and 120 Hz. The high-pass filter at the output (LOW CUT) can also be set between 80 and 120 Hz. The PHASE switch lets you invert the phase at the subwoofer output. The HS8S subwoofer features XLR outputs (L, R, and EXT SUB) and inputs in both jack and XLR formats.

XLR Cable

Stage Pro-Line cables use only oxygen-free copper, ensuring durable, consistent quality and corrosion resistance. The connectors are hand-soldered and feature strain relief clamps to protect solder joints from stress. A high-density copper shield effectively protects the audio signal from mechanical noise and electromagnetic interference, such as from power supplies and power cables. This guarantees low conductor capacitance and crystal-clear audio transmission.
