Premium Components

During the development of the BX5 D3, special attention was paid to first-class parts. High-quality components ensure an ultra-wide, linear frequency response with minimal distortion and lowest self-noise. Thanks to its 5" Kevlar woofer (12.7 cm), the BX5 D3 monitor guarantees an extremely long lifespan. Kevlar is particularly suitable for speaker cones due to its strength and temperature resistance.

The tweeter diaphragm is made of genuine silk, giving it a smooth sound – unlike many metal diaphragms in other monitors, which are often of inferior quality. To keep distortion to a minimum, the tweeter is completely isolated from the rest of the enclosure, ensuring a balanced frequency response up to 22 kHz.

The integrated amplifier operates on a bi-amping concept, amplifying tweeter and woofer separately. Combined with a finely tuned crossover, this guarantees that only those frequencies are sent to the high and low drivers that can be optimally reproduced. The low crossover point at 2000 Hz ensures a broad, nearly distortion-free signal output within the critical midrange frequencies.

The result is sonic accuracy with the BX5 D3 even on complex sounds across the entire frequency spectrum.

Innovative Enclosure Design

The BX5 D3 enclosure design is more than just a cabinet. All its components are aimed at excellent sound reproduction – its rounded corners reduce edge reflections and provide optimal imaging. The specially computer-calculated bass reflex port on the rear of the monitor was developed to minimize airflow noise and resulting distortion, while also extending the low-frequency range.

A completely newly developed custom waveguide around the tweeter ensures a wide and accurate sound image free from unwanted dispersion. When monitoring, the ideal central position (the so-called sweet spot) between the two speakers is especially important – that’s where stereo imaging is best. The BX5 D3 is equipped with an LED so you can easily find the sweet spot. You’re in the optimal listening position when the LEDs shine brightest.

Additionally, the legendary front design of the BX5 D3 – M-Audio’s famous "keyhole" design – offers more than just an attractive look: this special screwless design ensures no interference or resonance occurs inside the speaker.
