12-Track Recording and 10-Track Playback

The integrated and intuitive 12-track recorder in the Model 12 creates WAV files up to 48 kHz and 24 bit directly onto an SD card. Up to ten audio tracks can be played back simultaneously. The internal recorder features a metronome function and supports overdubbing as well as punch-in/out. Additionally, WAV files created with other mixers from the Tascam Model series like Model 12, Model 16, or Model 24 can be imported, simplifying collaboration with colleagues or band members. Of course, it is also possible to export tracks in WAV format for further editing or production directly in a DAW.

Perfect Integration with a DAW

You can easily connect a computer to the Model 12 via USB and use a wide range of common DAWs for recording and playback. You can record sounds calmly with a DAW and then play back these original tracks during live performances using the Model 12. The USB audio interface can be used simultaneously with the built-in multitrack recorder. The Model 12 also supports driverless USB mode (class compliant) and can be used with an Apple iOS device via an optional adapter.

Thanks to integrated HUI/MCU protocol emulation, you can also use the Model 12 for tactile control of basic functions in most common DAWs. Controllable parameters include fader, mute, pan, pre-listen, record enable, playback, record, stop, forward/rewind, and jog.

Separate Click Output with Tap Tempo Function

A separate click output with TAP TEMPO lets you control and monitor the tempo during both live and recording sessions. This allows better tempo control during recording, and live performers can easily play or sing along with a playback track from the built-in recorder. Additionally, you can assign the click to the stereo bus, subgroup, aux outputs, or—with separate level control—the two headphone outputs.

Combine Your Studio with MIDI Devices

Thanks to standard MIDI input and output, you can use keyboards, drum machines, controllers, and other MIDI-capable sources with the Model 12. This also allows triggering playback start commands or synchronizing external multitrack recorders and other MIDI devices with the Model 12.

Podcast Your Latest Music and Live Performances

The Model 12 offers various podcasting and internet streaming features such as mix-minus, smartphone input, numerous mic-capable channels, Bluetooth pairing, monitoring via two headphones, and integrated multitrack recording. Use the Model 12 as a versatile recorder for live productions, USB audio interface, and live streaming tool.

The compact Model 12 offers eight XLR mic inputs (with switchable 48-volt phantom power), ten line inputs via balanced jack connectors, a mini jack input (TRRS) for a smartphone, and a Bluetooth 5.0 input, making it well-equipped for any small-scale recording or live environment.

Two Headphone Outputs for Creative Teamwork

The Model 12 offers two independent headphone outputs with jacks on the top panel. This allows performer and engineer to monitor two separate mixes from AUX 1/2 and/or stereo mix simultaneously.

The Solo in Place (SIP) feature—alongside pre-fader listen (PFL) and after-fader listen (AFL)—enables flexible monitoring of individual channels within the mix without having to mute all other channels manually.

Synchronize Your Sound with the Video Image

A firmware update (version 1.20) added an output delay feature that lets you compensate for the annoying offset between video and audio signals often encountered during live streaming on the internet. You can select a suitable delay time for the audio signal before it is sent via USB to the computer, ensuring synchronized audio and video for the audience.

The output delay is adjustable from 1 to 2000 milliseconds (ms)—enough for all network types and camera systems. Besides the USB output signal, the delay can also be applied to hardware outputs, affecting the monitoring signal or a connected video encoder like the Tascam VS-R265.
