RØDE M2 - The Live Condenser Microphone!

The elegant, unobtrusively refined and high-resolution M2 is designed primarily as a condenser mic for live vocals where the finest nuances matter. It also captures acoustic instruments exceptionally well.

Aside from a consistently musical, subtle presence lift, the M2 adds very little coloration, allowing the artist to deliver an extremely honest performance with excellent dynamics: the maximum sound pressure level is 141 dB. In short, the M2 won’t be easily intimidated by loud rock/blues vocals, although depending on style and accompaniment a dynamic handheld like the M1 or M1-S might be the better choice in those situations.

The M2’s polar pattern and frequency response have been perfectly tuned for stage use. If you work with monitors, be sure to position them to the side of the microphone or stand. Supercardioid microphones like the M2 have a narrow pickup angle, which generally makes them very feedback-resistant, but unlike a cardioid they still show a notable residual sensitivity at the rear—so never place a monitor directly in front of the M2; always position it to the side of the stand or the performer. As a condenser microphone, the M2 requires 24V or 48V phantom power.
