The Legend Is Back: The Silver MK7!

Direct drive uses a slow-turning motor that drives the platter directly on the same axis. This system offers many advantages such as excellent speed stability, high starting torque, low maintenance, and outstanding reliability over the unit's entire lifetime.

Older direct-drive motors, however, were affected by so-called cogging — tiny microvibrations resulting from magnetic polarity reversals. The SL-1200MK7 employs a new drive motor whose stator is coreless, eliminating cogging. The gap between the coreless stator and the rotor (drive magnets) was minimized to maximize torque. This made it possible to achieve a torque comparable to that of the SL-1200MK5.

Adjustable Start and Brake Torque

The SL-1200MK7 impresses with innovative motor-control technologies, refined from the latest generation of Blu-ray players. A microcomputer control keeps the system steady both during normal playback and demanding DJ tasks such as scratching. Start torque and braking speed can also be adjusted to match personal preferences.

Pitch Function for Fine Speed Adjustment

The SL-1200MK7's rotation speed can be set to 33 1/3, 45 or 78 rpm.* The pitch range is ±8% / ±16%. This allows precise, stable fine-tuning of speed and makes it easy to match, for example, two SL-1200MK7 units in DJ setups. *Using 78 rpm is activated via the main power switch.
*The cartridge must be suitable for scratch use.

Reverse Play Function

If the speed button and the start/stop button are pressed simultaneously, the platter will rotate in the opposite direction*. This gives DJs new creative possibilities. *The reverse-play function is activated via the main power switch.

High-Sensitivity Tonearm

The tonearm features a statically balanced S-shape, typical of Technics models. The arm tube is made from lightweight, high-strength aluminum, while the gimbal-suspension bearing section uses a machined housing and high-precision bearing elements. This ensures excellent tracking with minimal unwanted stylus movement even under harsh conditions such as scratching.

Stylus Illumination With a Bright, Long-Life LED

The telescopic stylus light uses a new pressure mechanism and a bright, long-life white LED. The illumination area and intensity have been optimized, giving better stylus visibility compared with previous models—even in very dark environments.

Removable Power and Signal Cables for Greater Flexibility

The SL-1200MK7's power and phono cables are removable so they can be exchanged quickly. The gold-plated phono connectors ensure top sound quality and reliable contact characteristics.

Highly Stable Chassis and Effective Damping Feet

The SL-1200MK7's chassis is very stable and extremely low in vibration. The aluminum die-cast chassis is securely mounted to an ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) structure reinforced with glass fiber. The two-layer construction provides top-level rigidity and vibration damping, guaranteeing faithful, dynamic sound reproduction.

Spring-rubber feet provide optimal damping and also maintain horizontal stability. This combination ensures easy handling, especially for scratching, and excellent resistance to interference—even at very high sound pressure levels.
