The Legend Returns: The Silver MK7!

Direct drive uses a slow-running motor that drives the platter directly on the same axis. This system offers many advantages such as excellent wow and flutter, high starting torque, low maintenance, and outstanding reliability throughout its lifespan.

However, older direct drive motors were affected by so-called cogging torque, small microvibrations caused by magnetic polarity switching. The SL-1200MK7 features a new drive motor with an ironless stator. Therefore, this motor is free from cogging torque. The gap between the coreless stator and the rotor (drive magnet) has been minimized to maximize torque. This achieves a torque level equivalent to the SL-1200MK5.

Adjustable Start and Brake Torque

The SL-1200MK7 impresses with innovative motor control technologies, primarily developed and perfected for the latest generation of Blu-ray players. A microcomputer controller easily handles normal playback as well as demanding DJ applications like scratching. Additionally, start torque and braking speed can be customized to personal preferences.

Pitch Function for Fine Speed Adjustment

The SL-1200MK7’s rotation speed can be set to 33-1/3, 45, or 78 RPM.* The pitch adjustment range is ±8% / ±16%. This allows highly precise and stable fine-tuning of speed and perfect matching of, for example, two SL-1200MK7 units in DJ setups. *78 RPM use is activated via the main power switch.
*The cartridge system must be designed for scratch use.

Reverse Play Function

Pressing the speed button and the start/stop button simultaneously causes the platter to rotate in the opposite direction*. This opens up new creative possibilities for DJs. *The reverse play function is activated via the main power switch.

Highly Sensitive Tonearm

The tonearm is statically balanced and shaped in an S-form—typical for Technics models. The tonearm tube is made of lightweight, high-strength aluminum, while the gimbal suspension section features a machined housing and precision bearings. This ensures excellent tracking with minimal unwanted stylus movement even under harsh conditions like scratching.

Stylus Illumination with Bright, Long-Lasting LED

The telescopic stylus illumination uses a new pressure mechanism and a bright, durable white LED. The illumination area and intensity have also been optimized. Compared to previous models, this ensures better visibility of the stylus—even in very dark environments.

Detachable Power and Signal Cables for Greater Flexibility

The SL-1200MK7’s power and phono cables are detachable for quick replacement. The gold-plated phono connectors ensure top sound quality and reliable contact.

Highly Stable Chassis and Effective Damping Feet

The SL-1200MK7 chassis is very stable and extremely vibration-resistant. The aluminum die-cast chassis is firmly mounted to an ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer) plastic frame reinforced with glass fibers. This two-layer construction provides top-level strength and vibration damping, guaranteeing faithful, dynamic sound reproduction.

Optimal damping is ensured by feet made from a spring-rubber construction. They also maintain stability against horizontal movement. This combination guarantees easy handling, especially during scratching, and excellent resistance to interference—even at very high sound pressure levels.
