Lyra Harp Made of Beechwood!
The Classic Cantabile harp is the ideal entry into the world of harps for adults and children. This travel-friendly plucked instrument brings joy with its easy handling and full tone.
Construction
Except for the strings, the entire harp is made of beechwood. To enhance the instrument’s resonance, the body is assembled from just 2 parts: The body consists of a single piece of beechwood, onto which a beech top is glued. The curved bridge (also made of beech) transmits the vibrations of the strings to the resonance body. Since all strings are plucked freely vibrating, it fortunately doesn’t matter much if the bridge is repositioned millimeter-precisely after a string change.
Strings and Tuning
Unlike ordinary harps, this lyra harp is strung with regular guitar strings. This makes finding replacement strings much easier. For a complete restringing, you only need 2 sets of western guitar strings, leaving the lowest strings of each set unused. The tuning machines correspond to those of a harp and are operated with the included square tuning key.
The harp’s 10 strings can be tuned in two different ways:
- Diatonic: To play specific melodies and songs, the strings—starting at the small d—are tuned to the notes of the C major scale, namely: d-e-f-g-a-b-c'-d'-e'-f'
- Pentatonic: For free improvisation or for example in child education, the strings are tuned to the notes d-e-g-a-b-d'-e'-g'-a'-b'.
