The Katana-50 EX Gen 3 model adds several improvements for live use to the core features of the Katana-50 Gen 3. These include a redesigned speaker, line-out and stereo expand functions, and support for the GA-FC/GA-FC EX foot controllers.

Optimized Tube Logic Sounds

Tube Logic faithfully reproduces a tube circuit with all its complex interactions down to the smallest detail. The development of the five amp characters from previous Katana models, including the iconic Brown high-gain amp, continues this approach consistently. The new Pushed character especially highlights the optimized dynamic processes of the Katana-100 Gen 3. Experience the full dynamic gain structure of a clean combo amp driven into harmonic saturation. Additionally, all six amp characters have a variation, resulting in twelve distinct sounds in total. Compared to the 50-watt standard model, the Katana-50 EX Gen 3 features an optimized speaker for greater reach and resonance on stage.

Every tube amp fan knows: the louder you turn up the volume, the fuller, richer, and more dynamic the sound becomes. Unfortunately, that volume level isn’t always suitable for every playing situation. External power limiters are often used but can cause sound artifacts that affect the amp’s tone and response. The Katana Gen 3’s built-in power control combines the best of both worlds: the feel of a fully cranked amp at moderate volume without sacrificing sound quality. Use the front panel control to seamlessly adjust the level for any situation—from live concerts to bedroom practice.

Renowned Boss Effects

Katana Gen 3 offers five simultaneously usable effect categories, loaded with a variety of effects from Boss’s long history. With direct-access knobs and three variations each, the Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb sections deliver optimized sounds and a total of 15 individual effects. Boss Tone Studio offers even more possibilities, with 60 effect types and numerous detailed parameters to precisely tailor the amp’s internal effects to your preferences. Combined with the optional Bluetooth Audio MIDI Dual Adapter and BTS Editor app, you can even wirelessly control and tweak your sounds during gigs.

Unmatched Tone Shaping

The Boss Tone Studio software for Katana Gen 3 models has been visually redesigned, offering new graphical controls to adjust your sound faster and more intuitively. Find numerous tools for amp and effect editing, change effect order, and shape the overall sound with the 3-way contour control plus multiple EQs. Beyond global settings and behaviors, you can create and manage your own setups for gigs. You also get access to the Boss Tone Exchange platform, where you can download pro setups and share your sounds with the worldwide Katana community.

Comprehensive Live Control

The Katana-50 EX Gen 3 provides a range of powerful tools for modern performers. Four memory slots let you save and recall complete amp and effect setups. On the rear panel, you’ll find separate inputs for external control via footswitch and expression pedal. Even more options come with the GA-FC and GA-FC EX foot controllers, allowing extensive live control of your Katana Gen 3: access four additional tone settings (eight total), toggle effects on/off, use expression pedals, and more. The GA-FC EX also features an expansion mode to connect a second GA-FC unit, doubling footswitches or controlling two Katana amps simultaneously.

Expand Your Sound

The Katana-50 EX Gen 3 supports all your creative paths. The Stereo Expand* function lets you quickly and easily link two amps. While the main amp controls the master parameters, stereo effects like chorus, delay, and reverb are played through both amps for a wide, immersive sound. Alternatively, use the Power Amp In to bypass the Katana’s preamp and use the reactive Class-AB power stage as an amp for a modeling amp or external preamp.

Flexible Connectivity

With the Katana-50 EX Gen 3’s connection options, you’re ready for any playing situation. Plug in headphones for silent stereo practice. Send a signal via line out to a PA. Or use the USB-C port to record your playing in your favorite music software on a computer or mobile device. All audio outputs can deliver signals with IR speaker sound, including three Air-Feel types and two customizable settings in Boss Tone Studio.
