The Classic Cantabile FD-18 Ethnic Frame Drum combines the traditional frame drum design with a particularly practical detail: despite natural skin, a solid ash frame and classic lacing, the 18" frame drum can be comfortably tuned with the included Allen key. This lets you adjust the drum's response and sound to your playing style and the desired musical character. The real natural skin produces a warm, authentic sound with lively overtones and makes this hand drum a versatile instrument for meditation, sound journeys, folk, world music and percussion.

Natural Materials Instead of Modern Plastic Construction

With the FD-18 the natural character takes center stage. The sturdy frame is made from solid ash and contains no plywood. The frame drum is covered with real natural skin. The characteristic cross on the back is also made of leather and is traditionally secured with a cord. The result is an authentic construction with an organic look and pleasant feel. Playable by Hand or Beater

The frame drum can be played directly with hands and fingers, enabling expressive, dynamic percussion. Alternatively, use the included beater for stronger, more clearly defined strikes. The leather cross on the back supports a secure and comfortable hold while playing. With its 18" diameter the hand drum offers plenty of resonant surface for a full sound while remaining easy to handle.
