The handpan is an absolutely beginner-friendly instrument where percussion and melody come together. Playing the handpan creates soothing, ethereal, and long-lasting soundscapes that captivate both the player and listeners completely. No prior experience or music theory knowledge is required, as all tone fields lie within a fixed scale. On most models, it’s impossible to hit dissonant, or "wrong" sounding notes. The Bb2 Aegean tuning (fundamental frequency 440 Hz) is based on a major scale. The central note in the middle of the handpan is Bb2, surrounded circularly by the notes D3, F3, A3, Bb3, D4, E4, F4, and A4. Its four octave pairs provide an incredibly wide tonal range. The Aegean tuning sounds cheerful and enthusiastic but also gains a mystical, majestic character through its many low tones. Especially practical: the underside of the handpan is laser-engraved with an overview of the scale and individual tone fields.

Each Sela handpan comes with a bag made of tear-resistant nylon fabric, which provides optimal protection during transport thanks to its good padding. It can be carried either by hand using the two handles or comfortably as a backpack with adjustable shoulder straps. A practical outer pocket offers enough space for small accessories like a metronome.
