And that the 12'' on the set sounds like a broken bag-screws, the skin has nothing to do with it.

I bought the skin for a steel snare 14x3,5. My goal was to achieve quite a lot of overtone in a higher tuning. Yes, this is a matter of taste, but you can then dampen as desired. So in short - my expectations were met - the snare sings properly or sounds quite "normal" with a Moongel pad. The skin feels neat, but about the life I can not yet say much. On a tom it certainly makes a good figure, but there I could not test it because of non-existence of a 14er tom.
