I bought the skin for a steel snare 14x3,5. My goal was to achieve quite a lot of overtone in a higher tuning. Yes, this is a matter of taste, but you can then dampen as desired. So in short - my expectations were met - the snare sings properly or sounds quite "normal" with a Moongel pad. The skin feels neat, but about the life I can not yet say much. On a tom it certainly makes a good figure, but there I could not test it because of non-existence of a 14er tom.

This skin (and its siblings) can not perform miracles in terms of sound from the 2nd-hand starter set, which was purchased for 120 EUR. There is above all also voice talent of the drummer on the stool in demand.
And that the 12'' on the set sounds like a broken bag-screws, the skin has nothing to do with it.
Nevertheless: for me - with a lot of fine-tuning - the skin sounds quite decent. I am satisfied and can this skin after almost 3 weeks of service only praise and recommend.
A comparison to other skins I could only draw if I had other cases here.
It was purchased with the original drum skins.... and the cases were on the one hand through, and on the other hand, these sounded until the exchange with the XDrum skins but also like butter bread paper on tin bucket.
The sound experience with the XDrum skins is absolutely okay for me, considering all the circumstances.
(Certainly: the REMO or Evans faction can certainly more for the trained ear... but those who pay attention to such things may also play in a different league. But that's the beauty for the drummer... there is something for everyone :-)
