The strings had to come off straight away, of course, because they weren't short-scale strings, but long-scale wires cut to size. Probably not from the current Fender production, as one might expect.
It was noticeable that Kirstein had probably not done any setup: The truss rod lay deeply relaxed in its bed, the fingerboard was powder dry. How good that I can take something like this into my own hands!
