Squier Classic Vibe '60s Precision Bass LRL Olympic White

I wanted a simple, no-frills P-Bass for soul music: volume, tone—that’s it. That’s exactly the bass I found. The color looks great, the build quality is really solid, and it was set up well when it arrived. The fretboard needed to be oiled, and I put on flatwires (Pyramid Black Tape Nylon). The sound is warm, maybe a bit old-school. I like it; the playability is good, and the neck is lacquered, which doesn’t bother me.

Since I already own a really good Fender Made in Japan J-Bass, I’d been looking for a comparable P-Bass from Fender. It costs around 1,500 €. I then read a lot about the inconsistent quality of new Fender basses and wondered if it made sense to spend a relatively large amount of money on a Fender MiJ/Professional 2 (I’m purely a hobby musician). Conversations with professionals and semi-professionals have shown that expensive electric basses aren’t automatically better. Since this Squier bass has consistently received relatively good reviews and its sound has been described as less modern compared to the Fender Standard P-Bass, I wanted to give it a chance. The negative reviews about wood shavings, etc., didn’t deter me. For me, criteria like sound, a balanced weight distribution, good playability, and tuning-stable tuners are more important. Ultimately, you have to pick up the bass, and then you usually know right away whether it’s a hit or a miss—because with an instrument, emotions also play a role. With the CV 60, everything works for me, and for the price, I’m completely sold on it. With the CV 70, I wasn’t a fan of the maple fretboard. Otherwise, it’s definitely an alternative worth considering. I sent back a Fender Player 75th Anniversary—which I’d ordered primarily for its looks—because it didn’t look as cool as it did in the pictures, and it just didn’t quite win me over otherwise either.

Yeah, there’s no big name on the headstock. Supposedly that’s a disadvantage when reselling. I doubt that. In absolute terms, it probably doesn’t matter (especially if you don’t plan on selling it at all). Besides, when you play at my level and show up to a rehearsal or session with this bass, expectations aren’t as high as they would be with a premium bass. The strings mentioned above look great, play well, and sound very smooth. I’ve had good experiences with Pyramid Gold and Galli JF45105 Flats on my other basses. Both sets have a tension that’s not too high; the Galli ones are a bit cheaper and by no means inferior.

No question - the bass itself is well made and works for its price range. Was delivered quickly and arrived,
thanks to correspondingly elaborate repackaging arrived undamaged. However, it would have been nice if the bass in advance
by an expert from Kirstein on the neck, string action, screws etc. "checked through".
etc. So now an instrument was delivered that "out of the box" was not playable at first.
I would have gladly taken advantage of a corresponding service, as far as it would have been offered for a fee, since I would not have
I would have been happy to pay for such a service, as I can't do it myself and it would have saved me a lot of time and driving.

The bass came in pretty bad shape. Maybe it was not stored properly so it has major frets sprouts. It is actually painful to play and cuts through the flesh. I don't think it is a part of how this model should have been shipped. I have a classic vibe telecaster and it's pretty good. And of course, the setup of the bass is also pretty rough. I will fix it up myself though, cause I am a bit lazy to return it and get a new one. Also will train myself on it to learn fixing guitars in general. It does sound as expected though. The tone knobs seems to be dusty as you can here crackles when it is plugged in and you turn it. Other than that, looks good, sounds good. So with some work should be okay for now.
