At Any Time!

The impact of the hammers on the strings sets them and the soundboard into vibration. That's how the warm, natural and unmistakable tone of an acoustic piano develops.
On an outstanding piano, pianists play with spontaneity and passion. That enthusiastic expression isn't always welcome, though. There are situations and environments where piano playing can be perceived as disturbing. For example, when children practice scales while other family members want to watch TV in peace. Even the performance of a quiet Chopin prelude can — after a while — bother a neighbor.

The AnyTimeX4 models feature a mute for the acoustic part of the piano and high-quality digital piano technology. This allows pianists to enjoy the touch and feel of a traditional piano at any time and, by using headphones, avoid disturbing anyone. AnyTimeX4 models include the Kawai SH-9 headphones, which are specially tuned to the instrument's integrated sound engine.

Millennium III Keyboard

KAWAI revolutionized piano building in 1971 by introducing ABS into the piano action. The advantages of this stable, smooth-running and durable material over wood are obvious: no breakage under continuous heavy loads and no shrinking or expanding with climatic changes. The introduction of ABS action parts is an example of outstanding development in modern piano construction that has earned wide recognition from pianists and piano technicians worldwide. With the Millennium III Upright Action, KAWAI introduced in 2006 a keyboard designed to deliver the three most important elements for pianists: speed, touch control and required effort. The introduction of the even stronger ABS Carbon material enabled the development of even lighter action parts. Repetition capabilities and touch control were significantly improved.

The Sound Of The Shigeru Kawai SK-EX Concert Grand, Reproduced With The Latest SK-EX Rendering Sound Technology

When the acoustic components are muted, the KAWAI AnyTimeX4 pianos use a unique digital technology developed in the Shigeru Kawai research and development laboratory in Ryuyo, Japan, where the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grands are also handcrafted. The beautiful sound of the Kawai SK-EX concert grand is the heart of the new AnyTimeX4 pianos. The internationally respected Shigeru Kawai models are prized for their tonal clarity and are regularly heard on the stages of concert halls and music institutions. To reproduce the impressive sound of the Shigeru grand as faithfully as possible, Kawai developed the new SK-EX Rendering sound engine, which features high-resolution multi-channel sampling of all 88 keys combined with the latest resonance modelling technology. The multi-channel sampling includes sounds recorded from several positions on the Shigeru Kawai concert grand, capturing a broader spectrum of tonal characteristics and enabling more vivid, authentic tonal changes during dynamic playing. This natural and expressive sound is further enriched by physical modelling using newly developed resonance algorithms.

IHSS Sensor System

The loudness of each note on an acoustic piano depends on the speed with which the hammers strike the strings. A gentle keystroke produces a slow hammer movement and only low volume; a fast keystroke produces a fast hammer movement and therefore high volume. The AnyTimeX4 instruments reproduce this behavior precisely through integrated sensors in the piano action that detect the movement of each hammer. Whether you play fast passages where the same keys are struck repeatedly or slow, calm pieces, KAWAI's Integrated Hammer Sensing System (IHSS) gives the pianist first-class expressive possibilities, allowing the finest nuances to be played. IHSS operates far more accurately than key-sensor techniques.

Bluetooth MIDI And Bluetooth Audio

In addition to the MIDI jacks for connecting other MIDI devices, the AnyTimeX4 piano is equipped with Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio technology, enabling wireless communication with supported smart devices (e.g. smartphone or tablet). Once paired with a smartphone, tablet or other smart device, the AnyTimeX4 owner can comfortably use a wide range of music-related apps with the instrument or wirelessly play audio files stored on the paired device through headphones connected to the AnyTimeX4 piano.

Connections

Two headphone jacks are conveniently located on the front under the keyboard. Additional connection options such as USB to Device, USB to Host and inputs/outputs for audio products are also available. Wireless connections via Bluetooth (MIDI LE and Audio) with supported smart devices are possible as well.

PianoRemote App - Digital Convenience

To access all functions and sounds you need the "PianoRemote" app. Please download the "PianoRemote" app from the Android Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. With it you can perform functions such as transposition, tuning, metronome, Virtual Technician, Dual/Split and, of course, sound selection. A large number of high-quality sounds are available, enabling you to play a wide variety of styles. You can also easily record songs with the app and share them using your smart device's share function.

Extensive Sound Selection

In addition to the new SK-EX Rendering sound engine, the AnyTimeX4 models also feature the popular Harmonic Imaging XL technology. This includes alternative acoustic piano sounds and a large selection of additional voices. For example, you'll find the special sound of the Kawai EX concert grand, which—along with other grands—is often chosen internationally by professional pianists for events such as the Chopin, Tchaikovsky or Rubinstein piano competitions. The voices of the mid-sized Shigeru Kawai grand SK-5 and the acoustic Kawai upright K-60 give players the opportunity to experience different tonal characteristics from different grand sizes or an acoustic upright. In addition to acoustic piano voices, the AnyTimeX4 series offers a wide range of other sounds such as electric pianos, drawbar or church organs, string and choir voices, giving the musician a very versatile palette for many genres. The Dual mode allows simultaneous layering of two different sounds (e.g. grand and strings) across the keyboard, while the Split/four-hand mode divides the keyboard into a left and right section.

Shape The Tone To Your Own Preferences

With the Virtual Technician function integrated into the PianoRemote app, you can easily shape the tonal character of the chosen acoustic piano, harpsichord or electric piano sound via the display. For example, you can adjust the intensity of string, damper and cabinet resonance or the noise of the returning hammers. You can even alter and store the pitch and volume of individual notes.

Lesson Function

The Lesson function in the AnyTimeX4 series enables aspiring pianists to practice many pieces commonly used in piano lessons by Czerny, Burgmüller, Beyer, Bach and Chopin that are stored in the instruments. In addition, the Lesson function includes a total of 40 traditional finger exercises, scales and warm-up exercises. Sheet music for the listed pieces is included.

Energy Saving

The AnyTimeX4 models include an automatic power-off function. The instruments switch off if they are not played for a certain period of time.
